Random things. Week of 01/12/2008

December 4th, 2008

Hi!

I figured I’d post this week about my going ons. There is no full review yet but pending someone doesn’t beat me to it. (You’re free to do so!) I will most likely review Sonic Unleashed and Prince of Persia. I picked those up yesterday. Not knowing what to think of each because things have been quite hush for both! I played one hour of each last night. Am I satisfied? Yes. Quite satisfied.

More after the break of course!

PoP (Prince of Persia) is pretty simple to fight and navigate in. Elika saved my butt while I was pressing jump at innapropriate times where I would have plummeted to my doom. I’m fairly sure that the lack of platforming misshaps will not ruin the whole experience for me. If we’re comparing it to the original, it’s nowhere near as difficult of course. This seems to have a sands of time spin to it a whole lot more than anything else. The art direction is great. I think they were going for some sort of Cartooney HDR. The story and voice acting is superb so far I find. It makes me think of the weird dynamic relationship you’d see with the original star wars trilogy. Yes a star wars reference. I’m a trekkie at heart but I can still make those! That’s all I will say for now.

As for sonic. It’s come under fire a whole lot. I think most people dissaprove of Sonic team’s (or Sega’s) constant “revamp” of the franchise. Over the years they’ve just been trying to change it up all the time to find that special something that makes it ultimately desirable or something. Addition of tails, then knuckles, then metal sonic, shadow, those pokemon like creatures from adventure, a hedgehog/human princess romance, giving shadow his own game. The list goes on. I’ve played 1 through 3, sonic cd and dabbled in adventure. As far as 3d Sonics come, this one has to be the one with the most solid handles ever. I didn’t find myself doing stuff I wasn’t intended to do and was more likely to run through the stage with extreme speeds and the least amounts of stops and/or deaths ever. So this made me remember the good old days. The intro CG is nuts. I love it so far. I’m up to werehog time now so I guess this is where the chips (yes chips hah) will fall as to my liking of this game’s new gimmick.

Whoa, did you notice those two other tags for this subject? World of Warcraft and Warhammer… Yeah.
I’ve been playing both. I resumed warhammer lately, a friend of mine started playing. It’s an exciting game. Open RVR is where it’s at and well scenario of course. I’ve moved servers and can’t wait to reach rank 30+. This new server has a solid high tier playerbase. Tier 3 however is rather empty and full of folk that don’t seem to understand how to capture a keep. I’m begining to think the exp boost may be leveling people a bit too fast. They don’t seem to understand core mechanics of the game. Example, pulling a keep lord. I unlocked a Knight of the Blazing sun also, it’s okay but I prefer my Witch Hunter.

World of Warcraft. WoW. WoWcraft. Yes, I’ve started playing. I’m keeping a friend of mine company while she plays something else than Final Fantasy XI. I had tried this when the game was initially release whatever amount of years ago. This is a terribly popular game so much that I you would find all kinds of people in it. Alot of people who have learned to play an MMO before they learned to write legible english of course. I’m not saying I write perfectly but you can at least understand what I’m saying and I never use shorthand. Anyways, I’m up to level 22. I probably won’t join a guild or anything like that. I’m not in it for the social/group aspect really. This isn’t FFXI. You can get by with pickups and small groups. Between this and Warhammer I prefer warhammer of course. The games are almost identical but the class dynamics are so much more fun in warhammer. The interface is almost identical but I’d say I prefer warhammer once again. I am aware that I can plugin the crap out of it and change the interface drastically. I’m talking about out of the box here. Frame rate and general handling of the game is considerably higher in WoW though.

Still playing left 4 dead. If you can’t keep up and get through a level at my pace (and most of the rest of the team) you deserved to die. You’re not meant to exterminate the entire zombie populace. Run for the hills! I like those little tricks you get from watching other folk play. I can untangle people from smokers a whole lot better now. Just melee the dude directly, don’t worry about the smoker. He won’t do shit for at least a minute. Molotovs on tanks are a must. Tanks knocking folk off the roofs is awesome. Survival as a boomer is nice. Leaping up as a hunter is fun. Please, when you’re next to someone getting clawed by a hunter, don’t just unload your clip on him and the hunter. Melee the hunter off. It’s faster, you don’t need to be accurate and now you have two people capable of shooting. Grouping with the assault rifle works exactly like CS. Smaller bursts, better accuracy. As a zombie, timing is everything. Striking at regular intervals and together is totally going to own the crap out of the survivors. Last night I had a team with a molotov throwing person that managed to team kill me somehow… in the end saferoom. Later in the game the other survivor used a medic pack on me while I was at 90%HP I was so frustrated. We managed to win but mostly thanks to the fact that we were playing campaign on easy somehow.

Anyways. That’s it for now.

You do Prince of Persia, I’ll be reviewing the (meh) DS Spin-off :P
I might have reviewed Sonic Unleashed, but it just so happens that the PS3 version was delayed, so I’ll leave that to you as well.

Otherwise I’m trying to find other stuff to review and such, and planning on a few rants here and there as well.
And waiting for hildr to start his new feature too :P

Yup, we got back late last night so I couldn’t show him how to post pictures.

On my side I’m about to pick back up on gaming. Got Valkyria Chronicle, Yakuza 2 and Star Ocean First departure coming up.

(I’ll try to play as less FFXI as possible ;D)

Well you two know what I’ll be reviewing this month, as long as my sources hold true and my copy of Fire Emblem arrives early next week. While the price of Dissidia is pushing my purchase of WKC back a few weeks, it only means more time with me and my other PS3 games. 8D
