Plants VS Zombie – How to fix the saving issue

June 18th, 2009

Following our review of the game, some people have been making legitimate complaints about their save files being deleted after leaving the game.

I’ve contacted Pop Cap about this and here’s their customer service director’s suggestion:

This is a not uncommon issue with a lot of games, but it seems very widespread with PvZ for some reason (possibly just because more people are playing this game?). It’s a Vista issue, and it can be resolved in nearly all cases by following the instructions below:

We would like to suggest that you change a setting for the program’s Compatibility Mode.

PROGRAM COMPATIBILITY WIZARD:

1. Right click the shortcut to your game (if you don’t use a shortcut, right click the .exe file).

2. Click Properties.

3. Click the Compatibility tab.

4. Click the box marked “run this program as an Administrator.”

5. Click ok.

Hope this helps!

So here’s the solution some of you have been looking for. Try it out and let us know if it works!

this didnt work for me. I believe its a program problem that needs an update to fix. In my personal opinion.

This wouldn’t make it so that your file would be restored, just that your new save wouldn’t disappear. Can you confirm what part didn’t work? I need more information if I’m to contact Pop Cap again.

Otherwise, your best bet while you wait for a solution is probably to make a manual backup of your save files.

I tried it and so far it seems to be working! Thank you so much for your help, I searched everywhere and you were the only one with an answer that worked!

In the folder C:\Windows\System32 you should have an executable named runas.exe

This might help. (You’ll have to figure out your PC name, administrator password however)

I don’t have a compatibility tab when right clicking on the shortcut. If I right click on the executable file, I do have a compatibility tab. If I click “Run As Administator”, the game will no longer load until I unclick “Run As Administrator”. I got the game from Big Fish Games and are running it on Vista.

If you have vista you have to right click then go to properties, then to compatibility, scroll down to the end where it says privileges and mark “Run this program as administrator”

This worked for me…thanks to the original poster.

Did you use run as administrator every time you went in the game?

I’m not sure I can help more than that since I don’t have the game. =(

There is no box called “run this program as an administrator”. I have Windows XP and it won’t save at all for me.

    Confirmed.
I always forget about this fkin Windows bug. This bug effects a lot of games not just this great one.

TRY TO REMEMBER ALL PROGRAMS TO RUN IN SPECIAL ELITE MODE OR IT WON’T WORK CORRECTLY. p00py!

Whoever thought this Run as administrator idea was high or something, it won’t be long before viruses attack such a feature(run as admin)anyways which -I’m sure is the only reason they created it.

A lot of us have lost hours on multiple games because someone was high @ microsoft, thnx dud3!

I am also having this problem that is described. I am running this game that I bought today on my new Acer Notebook. I have a Compatibility Tab when I right-click on the shortcut, but when I click the “Run as Administrator” box, the game will no longer load. It asks me if I want to allow the game to make changes on the hard drive and I select “Yes”, it will just sit there and do nothing. Any help????
