Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Beta impressions

Being a Battlefield: Bad Company (BF:BC) veteran. Spending countless hours playing the game. I’m looking forward to this new version. Unlike other Battlefields, this one does have a campaign and usually follow the same set of objectives as the online game. Not to mention the dialog is quite entertaining. Hopefully they maintain this element in the new version. The Beta, however, is only online play. Much like the demo of the version prior. From the looks of it, I’m not too sure on the storyline and campaign. This time around, it seems to look a whole lot more serious.

More after the jump!

It followed a “level” system à la RPG much like COD4 did. This new one will too. The Frostbyte 2 engine has improved upon the already impressive Frostbyte engine. The game still looks and feels awesome. This time around you can completely wipe a building off the face of the world (map) which is nice. The predecessor would leave a wire frame up.

They switched up the classes. There’s one less class but I don’t think that will be a major problem. It’s just a bummer that the Support class is losing its multipurpose. In the new title, there will be two support classes (which can also assault, no need to be scared) and two offensive classes. As opposed to one support and 4 offensive classes.

My gripe. A big one, is that the controls are rather clunky. I’m not sure if this is to cater to the PS3 FPSers however. The button mapping is all backwards and the fact that the tools or utilities are bound to the d-pad makes this a whole lot less enjoyable. I pray the final version has a “classic” mode for the controller if this is in fact the button mapping for both Xbox 360 and PS3.

The game is slated for a March release. Which is nice because the months prior are going to be packed with other major titles. This is still a fairly new IP in the series. But I doubt it will have many problems in the marketing department. Maybe some CODers will be looking for another title by then!

Looking forward to it DICE.
