My hopes for Rock Band Green Day (track list wishlist)

While I think that a full Rock Band release for Green Day is ridiculous and really not needed(just like Guitar Hero Metallica and Guitar Hero Van Halen), and there’s tons of bands that deserve their own Rock Band game before Green Day, I’m still kinda happy about it because it might give more attention to the time when the band was actually good and respectable. So this is a wishlist for the game’s tracklist.
Without further ado, let’s see what I think should be the tracklist of Rock Band Green Day! (yeah, random short post to delay my review of Spirit Tracks >_<)
1,039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours
This is actually a compilation album which includes 3 short albums that came before it, but I’ve always referred to it as their first album…This album is quite different from anything else Green Day offered afterwards. Lots of punk-ish love songs. The sound is a bit raw and sounds like it’s not incredibly well-recorded compared to any of the following albums. But it does have quite a few good songs, despite a lot of them sounding quite similar. And since it shows the band’s beginnings, I think they need quite a few songs from it in the game.
My list:
At the Library
Don’t Leave Me
I Was There
Green Day
Going to Pasalacqua
16
The Judge’s Daughter
409 in Your Coffeemaker
1,000 Hours
The One I Want
Kerplunk
This album features a lot of good songs, but this is really where Green Day found their style. Not their best album, but it’s a blast to listen to anyways.
My list:
2000 Light Years Away
Welcome to Paradise
One for the Razorbacks
Christie Road
Private Ale
One of My Lies
Android
Dookie
The height of Green Day’s history. This is where they had the most popularity (until now, sadly) and where they really left their mark in the music industry. Most of their greatest songs are there. They solidified their style and made one of the best albums ever. Nothing more to say really.
My list:
All the freaking album
Seriously, not one song from this album SHOULD be omitted. Including Welcome to Paradise, it sounds different enough from the Kerplunk version to warrant having it a second time in the game.
Insomniac
This continues with Dookie’s style of music, and there’s some really good songs in there. Not exactly as solid as Dookie, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have some great songs. It also features a song that spawned what is probably their best video clip, Walking Contradiction.
My list:
Armatage Shanks
Stuck with Me
Geek Stink Breath
86
Brain Stew/Jaded
Westbound Sign
Walking Contradiction
Nimrod
This album tried a different style than what was used in Insomniac and Dookie. The songs didn’t all sound exactly like the Green Day we were, by then, used to hearing. For that it wasn’t really critically acclaimed. But it had some great songs nonetheless.
My list:
Nice Guys Finish Last
Hitchin’ a Ride
Platypus (I Hate You)
King for a Day
Scattered
Uptight
Warning
Again, Warning features a bit of a different sound than before, but it was Green Day’s last great album. I omitted one song I like because of the more “mature” nature of it.
My list:
Warning
Church on Sunday
Castaway
Deadbeat Holiday
Waiting
Minority
American Idiot
I hate this album. Forget the change in style, it’s a change of genre completely. They went from Punk(first 2-3 albums) to Punk Rock(basically from dookie to warning) to… Modern Pop. Yeah… But there are just a few good songs in there, or at least good compared to all the crap that’s in there.
My list:
American Idiot
Holiday
St. Jimmy
21st Century Breakdown
Oh god. I thought American Idiot was terrible. But this… doesn’t even have 1 good song…
My list:
NONE OF THE SONGS
OH WAIT. There’s one! I almost forgot about that song because it was only in the japanese release of the album. I want to know why too, because it’s great and by far the best song Green Day has produced since the Warning album. It sounds like older Green Day songs and it’s really really good.
My real list for this album:
Lights Out
Final Words
A Green Day-centered Rock Band is a really weird idea, and we could just do with DLC. But considering all the albums the band produced, I think what I have here is a really solid track list. The final tracklist will probably be quite different, concentrating more on the newer albums than the old ones, but I can still wish, can’t I? I’ll probably end up just buying it and exporting the songs to Rock Band 2 and then bringing it back to EBgames…

When I come around is the song that got me interested in music back in early ‘95. Far from their best song (even in Dookie), but the song means a lot to me. Hope it’s on there.
Not that I’ll ever consider buying it.
I grew up pretty bitter about this band. I loved it when I was younger but now when I hear any of their songs it’s like fingernails on a chalkboard. I can’t stand it.
I’m just a minority however if you look at greenday’s popularity. To be put up on the podium next to the Beatles in the Harmonix path however… that’s pretty weird. I’m guessing they’re just aiming for another demographic.
In the Band themed music games however… I just don’t enjoy that type of career retrospective and such. It’s worse than watching a 2 hour special on TV about their rise to fame. (yes this means Beatles)
After Guitar Hero II’s novelty wore off on me, I didn’t really look at the music games in anticipation until Rock Band. I played the crap out of Rock Band because it allowed me to play a larger variety of plastic instruments. The Drums were what pulled me in most. But, I didn’t purchase Rock Band 2 when it came around and I probably won’t purchase another game of the sort either.
Maybe DJ Hero, when the price drops, because it’s slightly different. But only in certain ways.
@Victor
Yeah, I think most of us on here hates the newer Green Day.
And yeah, Rock Band was my last buy in the music genre.
I agree with all songs on the wishlist but I wanna add a few more.
J.A.R. – Angus Soundtrack(Awesome song)
80 – Kerplunk
Panic Song – Insomniac
Prosthetic Head – Nimrod
The Grouch – Nimrod
Letterbomb – American Idiot
Desensitized – Shenanigans
Scumbag – Shenanigans
I agree that all 21st Breakdown songs should be left out.
Nice additions there too, all of which I wouldn’t mind seeing(completely forgot about J.A.R, used to love this song). And I forgot that Shenanigans actually had a good song or two.
As for the 21st Century Breakdown songs, definitely check out Lights Out, it’s a great song, and it sucks that they didn’t release it in America since it’s the only proper song on the whole album.
jesus of suburbia
homecoming
the one 21st century breakdown song there should be is RESTLESS HEART SYNDROME very well guitared song
what no way all 21 centary brakdown
alright Green Day deserves rock band they are one the best bands out there and 21st century breakdown should at least have: Know Your Enemy, 21 guns, last of the american girls/murder city, 21st century breakdown, the static age, maybe even horseshoes and handgrenades but hey can vut out the swearing and of course East jesus Nowhere…and for american idiot there should be jesus of suburbia, homecoming, holiday/boulvard of broken dreams, american idiot, wake me up when september ends, st.jimmy, letter bomb, shes a rebel/whatsername, and they should have viva la gloria and ste static age and before the lobotomy and you know what they are making a game right now and you can’t stop it…theres no point on complaning about it…then don’t buy the game.
Green Day is awesome
Hum… where did I complain about the game being made? All I’m saying is that there’s tons of bands a lot more deserving of their own Rock Band game than Green Day. I’m a huge Green Day fan, I’m happy the game is being made. And I’ll most likely buy it.
All I’m saying is that I hope they give proper credit to back when the band had actual talent, and don’t just fill the game with their newer Pop songs, and concentrate more on their Rock/Punk days.
Yup. One of my favorite non-metal bands. I grew up listening to their music and I still frequently listen to their pre-Warning albums. Awesome stuff.
Let’s face it were getting old. Just look at how most older people hate rock or rap music, yet massive amounts of people still love and hear it. The same happens with the bands, weather they can not re-create their masterpeices or have moved on to a more popular genre. We are not going to listen to our children’s children music! The beatles is a good exception though, they never stopped making good music while the band existed, I wish there could be other bands with the same quality. I still love Green Day and like a couple of their songs from their newer albums. I too grew up listening to this band as a kid, i’m 16 and i bet you, the guy that posted this wishlist, i bet you are older than me or not?
@Anthony
You might have a point there.
You were barely born when I started listening to Green Day. Thanks for making me feel old kid. =/
Jinx/Haushinka – NIMROD
if it doesnt have “Burnout” – Dookie, i wont buy the game
the game should include all of the sogns from all albums
That’d be a good compromise I guess. The fans of the good song would have them all, and the fans of the bad songs would have them all too. Everyone’s happy.
i personally liked american idiot and all but extroadinary girl and she’s a rebel should be put on and also i didn’t like 21st cbd as much as previous albums but they are just awesome live. anyeay defo need paper laterns, dry ice and going to palasacqua with them playing at guiileman street in the 90’s
i have always liked green day and always will but come on y dont u want any 21st century breakdown songs i would put all of them on there except horeseshose and handgernads.
I don’t want any from 21st century breakdown because they’re all bad, other than “Lights Out” in the japanese version of the album. 21st Century Breakdown goes against everything that Green Day was from the start. Most of their songs before were partly about how they wouldn’t sell out, but with American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown they said “screw that, let’s make more money”. All they do now is music that appeals to the masses only, and, let’s face it, “the masses” have terrible taste in music. Just listen to any popular radio station.
lights out is good but at least they announced that there going back to there old stuff. ive been hoping that they would change there music for years and im deppresed that there going back to there old stuff. its just kinda weird that u dont like the newer stuff.
they didnt relese lights out on this album cause they didnt have enough room
Ugh. I can’t stand people who whine about the “new” green day. They’re still punk and they’re still awesome. They’re one of the few GOOD rock bands out there right now and they’ve been around before most of you were born! That’s why they have their own video game. AM I the only one who likes ALL of their albums? You’re either a green day fan or your not, so learn to appreciate good music or shut the hell up.
@PK
Wow.. so we should all like every song of a band just because we were fans of the band 16 years ago? That’s not how it should be. It’s cool for you that you like all their albums, no problems with that bro.
But some of us just don’t like their new stuff. Oh and Green Day wasn’t around before I was born…
i am a fan of all green day albums
