The Save Points – Why we do this
So today we had a bit of problems with God of War fanboys being very mad at us because we don’t like the game they like. And I want to ask: Why are you mad? Can’t you respect other opinions, and if you have something to say about it, can’t you just tell us without throwing insults (and overall just being assholes) instead of actually discussing why you disagree?
So I wanted to talk about this. It was a big problem today, but it’s ALSO a big problem amongst gamers in general. Visit ANY video game forum and you’ll see.
What I want to do here is answer a simple question: Why does this blog exist? Why do we write articles or reviews on it?
So here goes! (in the form of an open letter to anyone who might visit the site)
1. Why we do this
Let’s start with this right away. Though it’s nice to get positive comments from time to time, we do this to get our opinions out in the open, offering it to anyone who might be interested in it, or who might be looking for a second opinion on games that get REALLY high reviews on “professional” review sites that might not actually warrant such a high score, or that were clearly paid off to give a high score. We do this for FUN. Writing reviews and impressions and random posts, it’s all because we enjoy doing it. If there’s a particularily popular game that we end up playing and not liking, of course we’ll be honest and write about why we didn’t like it. If we really like an under-appreciated title, we’ll do just the same and explain why we did like it. That’s all there is to it.
We have fun writing our reviews and other posts, and we want to get our opinions out for people to see. Nothing more, nothing less.
2. It’s not for money
Well it’s definitely not for money. I mean, we have about $0.02 on our Google Ads account, not much we can do with that. We got no donations whatsoever from our Donate button lower on the page, nothing we can do with that. We currently have $0.08 on our play-asia account from the store links on the right, not much we can do with that either. So we clearly don’t make any money from this, yet we pay for the domain and hosting anyways, and we’ve been around for over a year already and we plan on staying as long as we can. We do this for fun, not money. Heck, it costs us money to keep the site running, so money is definitely not the goal.
3. It’s not for games
What about games? Gaming blogs get review copies, right? Well, not us. We have no idea where to go, or who to ask to get review copies for games. And we don’t exactly have time to go around finding who to contact to get review copies and such. And we’re not exactly well known or anything, so companies won’t go out of their way to contact us and send us review copies. Yet despite that we STILL continued our blog for over a year with no intention on stopping. Why? Because we have fun doing it. Sure, we wouldn’t mind getting some review copies of games, but would we let that affect our views on the games? No way. If we ever get a game for review, we’ll review it, and we’ll be sure to give it a fair review, so if it sucks, we’ll say it sucks and that’s that.
4. It’s not for hits
If we post to say we didn’t like a game, guess what? It’s because we didn’t like it. Simple logic huh? Major sites do this a lot. Giving highly anticipated games low reviews to rake in the hits, and therefore rake in the cash from their various sponsors. We, on the other hand, do NOT have sponsors. We are not a “Major site”. We don’t get anything concrete from getting more hits on the site. So why would we just post “controversial” post for hits when, in the end, hits don’t mean as much to us as actually having people reading and appreciating our opinions? We don’t do this for hits, we do this for fun, and to display our opinions.
5. You CAN disagree with us
This is a (relatively) free country. We won’t stop you from expressing your opinions on our blog, nor will we censor you when you disagree with us. Just be polite about it. What we got today is a bunch of immature 5 year-olds coming in and screaming insults at us instead of actually telling us why they disagree with us in a friendly manner. We, contrarily to them, respect opinions. If you disagree with us, we WANT you to tell us. Just be nice about it, explain yourself clearly, and respect that, just as you don’t agree with us, we might not agree with you either. And be understanding too. Again, we do this for fun, and having to argue with idiotic trolls… isn’t fun. Getting DDOS’d isn’t fun either. Our site became unavailable for a short while because someone who disagreed with us decide to attack our server instead of just telling us why he disagrees.
6. Did I mention we do this for fun?
Well, we do. Writing a bit from time to time is fun. Giving our opinions to the world is fun. Talking about games, whether we like them or not, is fun. That’s really all there is to our posts. An event like what happened today is highly undesirable, and I really hope we don’t go through another one. Be nice, be respectful, be understanding, and don’t be an asshole. Seriously.
We do this for fun, and we want people who come here to read us for fun as well.
Thank you,
Jonathan

You’re such an Xbot. >:(
I wouldn’t call out coincidence for the down time just yet.
DDOSing actually requires resource to do so.
By the way, did you ever receive that independent game’s review kit? o.o
Nope, not yet.
Oh and people. If you want to be taken seriously when you’re arguing. Watch the quality of your writing, please.
It’s pretty sad if English is your first or second language and you can’t write it without making mistakes every three words.
ほんとうにまったく!
I was kind of taken back by how wonderful those comments were. Very eloquent. There are 5 people that posts articles on this site, 3 of which are not English by first language.
In any case. I’d also like to come out and say that out of pretty much all the posters on this site. I’m probably the closest you’ll find to an “Xbot” if that is meant to be a bad thing. Yes, I do own the console. I do like it and I also prioritize it over my PS3 that I also have. I actually purchased the PS3, day 1. The Wii day 1 but the Xbox 360… a few months after release.
If somehow seeing that people, elsewhere around the world… over the “interwebs”, don’t share your opinion over a franchise or console that you hold near and dear to your heart sparks some sort of flame in you and you absolutely must litter these people’s website with filth then you might need to take a deep breath and think about that before acting on it.
I would suggest opening a blog of your own with your buddies, like we did (although maybe not for the same reasons at this point), and just write about what you love. All of us are doing this out of our free time with no hidden agenda whatsoever. I doubt anyone here’s going to be internet famous over nitpicking at God of War III or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. It’s not the type of stuff that’s necessarily uncommon either.
To our new fans. I hope you have a small reflection about things.
