Games coming out in April 2012
Well, March was another slow month for me in regards to writing, but I do have some posts upcoming. Reviews for Kid Icarus: Uprising, Tales of Graces f, Ys: Oath of Felghana, maybe Street Fighter X Tekken, maybe Fortune Summoners, maybe Wizorb and a couple other random things are in the pipeline somewhere (in addition to some things coming out in April)… in addition to that I have a new series of posts I mentioned a couple times so far (I already have a bunch of posts written for it, I’m just building a backlog of those in case I slow down in writing them), which I’ll probably start posting in April with no set schedule. I’m also thinking of another new post series, but that may just come later in the year.
Either way, this April is a slow month in regards to amount of releases, but there’s still some good quality stuff here, which is what matters in the end. Here we have 2 multiplatform games, 1 Wii game, 2 3DS games, 1 Vita game, somehow an Xbox 360 exclusive, and a free-to-play PC game! Kind of strange to see a month with a 360 exclusive and no PS3 exclusives.
So read on and see what’s coming!
MULTIPLATFORM RELEASES
Devil May Cry HD Collection 04/03 (PS3, 360)

Devil May Cry is awesome. This includes the awesome DMC1 and DMC3, but also the much maligned DMC2. They have apparently better graphics and a couple special features. Looking at videos I frankly think the graphics aren’t much better than they were on the PS2, but maybe seeing it on an actual TV will look better. This is a great series, and, if you haven’t played it on the PS2, this is a perfect way to redeem yourself and play basically the best of the best in regards to this style of action game (may or may not be ignoring the existence of Bayonetta).
Prototype 2 04/24 (PC, PS3, 360)

The original Prototype was… okay. Some of the mechanics didn’t feel as good as they could and the fighting was kinda subpar, but there were a lot of fun ideas here. I certainly hope the sequel expands on the original’s fairly solid foundations and has better combat.
WII RELEASE
Xenoblade Chronicles 04/02

Seems like a fun RPG, with a lot of cool/unique features. It’s an EBgames/Gamestop exclusive, unless you buy direct from Nintendo, but it’s worth buying just to show Nintendo that there’s an audience for RPGs here (something they haven’t really believed ever since Earthbound commercially failed… unless it features Mario of course). There’s an interesting setting, various cool gameplay mechanics, cool combat… Looks solid overall.
3DS RELEASES
Spirit Camera: The Cursed Memoir 04/13

A 3DS horror title where you travel through what seems to be a scary mansion, where you have to take pictures of things and ghosts pop out at you. Seems interesting enough, sort of reminiscent of Fatal Frame in a way.
PLAYSTATION VITA RELEASE
Disgaea 3: Absence of Detention 04/17

A great game on the Vita? Nowai! It’s a port of the PS3 version, but it includes all the DLC and some very minor new content. If you haven’t played it on PS3, definitely get it here. Otherwise…. only get it if you really want to lose another hundred hours of your life to the same game
XBOX 360 RELEASE
Phantom Breaker 04/10

An anime style fighting game! I know nothing about it, and I can’t imagine playing any fighting game with the 360 controller’s horrible d-pad… so I’ll just rent it see if it looks fun.
PC RELEASE
Tribes: Ascend 04/12

A free-to-play FPS! And… it actually looks pretty solid, harkening back to a more classic style of arena FPS (ala Quake 3 or Unreal Tournament), with deathmatch and capture the flag modes (maybe more, I don’t know), with cool alien weaponry. You also have a jetpack and… skiing? Yeah, when you’re on the ground you can ski (I have no idea how it’s done control-wise) to pick up a LOT of speed and take jumps and such. This actually seems quite fun. Like most F2P games it does feature an online shop for certain things, but it’s 100% optional since you can get everything just by playing normally (just slower and it’s apparently nothing game-breaking either way).

DMC HD collection I’ll have to get down the line, but not for now.
I didn’t really like what I’ve played of Xenoblade Chronicles.
So yeah, nothing for me outside of Pre-purchase of GW2.
Also, Tribes Ascend is pretty trippy.
Kinect Star Wars.
If I was super rich and needed a 3rd xbox…
