Games coming out in September 2013
Oh damn, I’m late on this. Month went fast, big days at work, stuff like that… But the big release season of the year is starting, there’s a lot of stuff coming in the following months.
So in September we’re getting: 2 Wii U releases, 4 Vita releases, 3 PS3 releases and 8 multiplatform releases.
So… Let’s see what’s coming!
Usual disclaimer: Those include either games I’m interested in, or games that may be/become popular… Basically anything I feel bears mentioning, whether I’m personally hyped for it or not.
WII U RELEASES
The Wonderful 101 09/15
WOOOO! A new Platinum Games action game! Having played the E3 2012 demo (back when it was called Project P-100) and the newest public demo from the eshop, I will say that it’s badass. Despite the point of view of the camera and the bunch of units following you, this is not a Pikmin-style game like many people still claim, but rather an action game in the style of Bayonetta/Devil May Cry. I don’t know how far the comboing goes, but from my short playtime with the game I know it will be great fun regardless. If you don’t buy this YOU HAVE NO SOUL.
Legend of Zelda Wind Waker HD 09/20 (digital release)
Finally Nintendo is starting to pull the big guns for the Wii U. An early digital release of Wind Waker HD, coupled with a new bundle and a price drop.
Wind Waker itself is a REALLY good game. Still arguably the best 3D Zelda game. This version features better graphics (which… is a bit odd), enable you to move in first-person while shooting your bow (okay?), faster sailing (fuckyeah) and a slightly less annoying triforce quest. The point, though, is that Wind Waker is awesome, and if you don’t have the gamecube version GET THIS.
Valhalla Knights 3 09/03
No idea what it is, just putting it here because it’s actually a Vita exclusive.
Atelier Meruru Plus: The Apprentice of Arland 09/03
At least they give us a release date this time instead of just popping it out of nowhere like they did with Totori previously. I enjoyed Meruru on PS3, this version should be good too. Seems like a digital-only release though.
Killzone: Mercenary 09/10
You know what sucks? Killzone. This looks much the same as the other games in the series. The fact that it looks almost as good as the PS3 games is nice, but technically solid graphics does not a good game make. If other FPS on this system are any indication (with their terrible gameplay/controls and 40 minutes of single-player content), this has little chance of being decent. It’s on my rental list just because I want stuff to play on Vita, but my expectations are as low as can be.
Ys: Memories of Celceta 09/24
It’s nice to see some exclusives on this thing even if it’s a niche RPG that only a couple people will buy. There’s a nice premium edition too if you’re into that stuff.
PLAYSTATION 3 RELEASES
One Piece: Pirate Warriors 2 09/03 (PSN only)
Dynasty Warriors, with One Piece characters. The first one was quite fun, as the Dynasty Warriors style of gameplay is a perfect fit for the One Piece universe. Very sad that the Vita version isn’t coming here at all (which makes no sense… the game is translated already, just release it dammit). Fans of the anime/manga series will love this a lot.
Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX 09/10
Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2, in HD! Not SUPER interesting, unless you missed the PS2 games. Apparently this adds some content, so it should be worth checking out if you either missed them the first time or want to play them again.
A sidescrolling platformer. It looks possibly interesting, it’s kinda hard to say without playing it. It DOES bear an uncanny resemblance to a classic Genesis game called Dynamite Headdy in regards to gameplay, where the character gets different powers depending on what head he has equipped and with a stage-play concept for the level presentation. It looks cool and it’s a budget-title, might be worth grabbing.
Diablo III 09/03 (PS3, 360)
A console port of a disappointing (but not completely horrible) point-and-click Hack n’ Slash RPG. I’ll go with a massive MEH on this. Why would I want to play a point-and-click game without having the ability to point and click? Let alone Diablo 3.
Rayman Legends 09/03 (PS3, 360, Wii U, Vita)
While Rayman Origins was complete fucking crap (it had pretty graphics, but pretty shit is still shit), they seem to have partly fixed the cheap feeling of the gameplay here, it’s a bit more solid and actually feels kinda fun now. Either the Vita or Wii U versions sound like the better ones here. Not supporting Ubisoft sounds like an even better deal.
Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse HD Remake 09/03–09/04 (PSN, PC, XBLA)
Huh. Weird. Not that this is a bad release or anything, but it’s kinda random. The Genesis game was decent (but tends to be overhyped), and this looks pretty good too. I might get it at some point, but it’s no priority
FIFA 14/NHL 14 09/10 (PS3, 360)
So I just put pictures of better alternatives. People need to stop supporting EA’s rip-off BS.
Grand Theft Auto V 09/17 (PS3, 360)
GTAIV was HORRIBLE. The controls sucked, the physics engine was broken, the characters were boring and bland, the story was sleep-inducing and the gunplay was bad. I’m expecting much of the same from this, especially since Rockstar has barely released anything worth playing this gen… Max Payne 3 was decent, which is a good point for GTAV since they exactly ripped-off the gunplay from MP3 here, so they fixed that major problem from GTAIV.
Armored Core: Verdict Day 09/24 (PS3, 360)
I never knew this was coming. Not a series I’m super interested in myself, but AC games are generally pretty good.
Scribblenauts Unmasked 09/24 (3DS, Wii U, PC)
My experience with Scribblenauts so far has been one of boredom. The previous one (Unlimited I think it was called) was incredibly bad. Basically all the “puzzles” boiled down to “make whatever kind of item this person wants”. The first game was a nice proof of concept and had some clever puzzles, but they’re not really doing anything interesting with the gameplay anymore.
