Games coming out in March 2018

Man the game industry needs to ramp it up this year. There’s not much of note coming out recently, and the rest of the year is looking pretty empty so far looking at the schedule. I’ve just been watching a load of anime instead of playing games recently. What are game companies doing? Fill that calendar up a bit, come on. March has a couple cool things, but I can’t say anything here is huge and industry-shaking.

I do need to get back to Iconoclasts and maybe review that soon… Or find something else to talk aboot.

So this month I’m counting: 1 Switch game, 3 PS4 games, 10 multiplats and 2 3DS games. Nothing really huge here. There’s 3 games I’m getting for sure and a bunch of maybes. We’ll see.

Usual disclaimer: This includes either games I’m interested in, games that may be/become popular and random stuff in-between… Basically anything I feel bears mentioning for any reason. Probably missing stuff because game companies are shit about announcing release dates nowadays (and good at delaying games near release), and I’m not gonna dig through the hundreds of trash indie games that come out on Steam every day to find the one or 2 okay ones that pop up occasionally. So if there’s no/few indie games here, it’s pretty normal.

Also I’m skipping the indie game ports and third-party ports on Switch that will probably come out, there’s usually a big random bunch. Also skipping FFXV on PC because… who gives a crap about FFXV? As someone who finished it I can say without a doubt, it’s not very good.

Kirby Star Allies 03/16
Kirby Star Allies

It’s Kirby. It’s probably gonna be pretty great as per non-spinoff Kirby tradition. I say this every time a Kirby game comes out but Kirby is probably Nintendo’s most consistent series. I’m not too sure how this game fully works since I’m avoiding as much information as I can on it, but it does seem to have a sort of return of the power combinations from 64 (I think using allies), and the animal friends from 2 and 3 seem to be back in a minimized form. Can’t wait.

Scribblenauts Showdown 03/06 (Switch, PS4, Xbone)
Scribblenauts Showdown
Scribblenauts, that one game where you write a word and, if it was programmed in, that object appears. It’s an okay puzzle series. I’m not quite sure what Showdown adds to the concept, but it looks pretty meh to me from the one gameplay video I watched.

Devil May Cry HD Collection 03/13 (PC, PS4, Xbone)
Devil May Cry HD Collection
Why not Switch? Stop being so weird about this Capcom. Geeze. This is exactly the kind of thing I’d want to play portably. I’m not re-buying this on PC or PS4 (I already have both the games in this collection on PS2, and I have the PS3 collection), I need a good reason to get them again and the Switch version would do that. I’ll just wait for you guys to stop making dumb decisions.

Burnout Paradise Remastered 03/16 (PC, PS4, Xbone)
Burnout Paradise Remastered
Why not Switch? … Yeah so that’s 2 remasters in a row on this list that I can’t find a reason to get because they’re not getting a handheld release. Dafuq is up with game companies? That said Burnout Paradise is good so grab it if you didn’t before. I’m in no hurry to get it again since I still have it on my PS3, so whatever, bring it to the fucking Switch.

Attack on Titan 2: Future Coordinates 03/20 (Switch, PC, PS4, Xbone)
Attack on Titan 2: Future Coordinates
I’ve seen a small handful of people really enjoying the first game. The gameplay didn’t look great but maybe it was fun to play than it was to watch. I figure the sequel is more of that.

Sea of Thieves 03/20 (PC, Xbone)
sea of thieves
Looks boring. It’s been announced for a good long while and every single video I’ve seen of it made me wonder “what’s the point?”, because it doesn’t really look like there is a point at all. You team up with randos on a pirate ship, go to an island, get treasure, bring it back to a place, have it be stolen by someone else, wonder what the point of any of that was and why the actual gameplay mechanics are so meh… I dunno, it just doesn’t look good.

Assassin’s Creed Rogue: Remastered 03/20 (PS4, Xbone)

Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom 03/23 (PC, PS4)
Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom
The first Ni no Kuni was a very fun game. Cool little JRPG, made in conjunction with Studio Ghibli designing the characters and animating some cutscenes, pretty interesting story, it was a good time. The sequel seems to improve some aspects of combat, I dunno what else. But it should be fun.

A Way Out 03/23 (PC, PS4, Xbone)
A Way Out
So this is that cooperative split-screen game thing that sometimes have real-time cutscenes on one split and gameplay/puzzles on the other. It seems like something people will enjoy, but I don’t care in the least.

Far Cry 5 03/27 (PC, PS4, Xbone)
Far Cry 5
Oh yeah that’s coming out. Ubisoft sure isn’t hyping it up much. Eh. It’s not Blood Dragon so my care level is just around zero. Maybe I’ll grab it from a humble bundle in a couple years or something.

Atelier Lydie & Suelle: The Alchemists and the Mysterious Paintings 03/27 (Switch, PC, PS4)
Atelier Lydie & Suelle: The Alchemists and the Mysterious Paintings
I haven’t touched an Atelier game since… Atelier Meruru I think? That’s 5 or 6 games ago. So it’s been a while. I might get back into it. They’re fun RPGs with a focus on crafting and material gathering. So weird that something like this is a yearly series.

DJMAX Respect 03/06
DJMAX Respect
It’s some rhythm game. Doesn’t look incredibly interesting to me. It’s a remaster of an older game, and there’s a shitload of songs in it (147).

The Witch and the Hundred Knight 2 03/27
The Witch and the Hundred Knight 2
The first Witch and the Hundred Knight is a game I think I completely skipped on reviewing, even though I have it. It was an okay action RPG and I really liked Metallia, but I got bored pretty fast.

MLB The Show 18 03/27
MLB The Show 18
It’s baseball.

Detective Pikachu 03/23
detective pikachu

I don’t know if I’ll get this game since it’s on 3DS rather than Switch, but it’s cool that it’s getting a release before the movie. Seems like a point-and-click adventure-ish thing, might be fun.

The Alliance Alive 03/27
The Alliance Alive
This is an RPG made by the same people who made The Legend of Legacy, another RPG I didn’t play. Woo.
