Jetpack developer calls out every level designer wannabes out there

February 9th, 2010

Do you remember Jetpack?  It was one of those awesome PC games from the first half of the 90s (originally released in 1993, then re-released as a freeware in 1995).   If the screenshot doesn’t ring any bells for you, Jetpack was your typical puzzle action game at the time.  This one, and this might or might not surprise you, used a jetpack as its main gameplay element.  You had to pick up all the green emeralds in a level while avoiding traps and enemies to finally make your exit through a door.

Adept Software is now re-releasing the game officially in Web format, apparently ending “one of the longest Vaporware runs ever, since a sequel had been promised since 1995″.

15 years later, the re-release of Jetpack will include significant enhancements to the classic game, including web play, high-res graphics, remastered sounds and music, and new levels. It will also include a pixelated “retro mode” to let fans reminisce about the original game.

Now, the interesting part is, this being an indie project, the developer is looking for fan-submitted content to be used in the game.  This will guarantee your name being in the credits, but it will also give you a chance at winning some money.

Prizes A total of $200 will go to the 6 people who create the most content chosen for use in Jetpack. The top 2 will receive $50.00 4 runners-up will receive $25.00

They are looking for level designers, but also graphics, sound effects and music designers, so give your artist side a spin if you feel like it and help out what seems to be an interesting project to get some little experience in game development, if that’s your thing.

More details  here.

January Contest – If you build it, they won’t necessarily come.

January 18th, 2009

I guess the incentive wasn’t very interesting, if at all.  I thought it’d be at least interesting to some of the readers, enough to just simply register.  But it just didn’t happen.  I’m gonna call it off right now, and say sorry to meep and hellbringer.  I can’t really have a contest with just so few people, that’s not interesting at all, and I can’t even afford to ship anything right now, if it’s not to get more subscribers in return.  Yeah it sucks, but we’ll come back with something more interesting later this spring, more gaming related.

So for now, I think I’m going to make things more interesting and leave commenting available to non-members, at least for now.  We need to build a community, and we want you guys to be part of it!

Here’s the prizes pictures! (TSP! First contest ever)

January 6th, 2009

Hey everyone! You could win one of these by simply registering to the site.  See this post for more details.

Contest cancelled for now. See here for details.

prizebleach

Early Bleach themed Wall Scroll

prizeffxi

Final Fantasy XI themed Wall Scroll

Now these aren’t in the condition I thought they were in when I launched the contest.  But they’re still pretty nice and I’d keep the FFXI one to myself if I still had space for it.  But if enough people participate and you guys and girls would rather like something else, like, let’s say… a game, movie or anime dvd of your choice on Amazon or any online retailer that ships to your country, preferably, at a reasonable price, which could go up depending on the number of members by end of January.  We’ll have to see how that goes.

Also special thanks to meep for linking here from N4G!

How can you participate?
Quite simple. Just register here to our site or through the link under “meta” in the navigation bar on your right. Wait! There’s more ways to boost your chances of winning. Here are the details

Register to the site: odds + 1
Refer someone to the site: odds +2
Donation: odds +2/$1
Participate in the comments: odds + 1/comment (please be intelligible at the very least)

See this post for more details.

The Save Points! first ever contest! “Registerfest”

January 5th, 2009

UPDATE NOTE: This contest was cancelled due to low participations.  See why here.

Hi everyone!

It’s nice to see that we’re slowly growing and that we’re getting more traffic from week to week. But we’re kind of disappointed not seeing anyone registering or commenting on our posts. But it’s still understandable, as it’s a pain to register to a site when you have nothing to gain out of it.

That’s why we’re launching the first ever The Save Points! Contest.

What can you win?
I can’t promise these prizes will interest you, but since it is our first contest, we rather go with something we can easily afford to give away. If the response rate is above our expectations, we might add additional prize(s) for you to win.

Both prizes are large wall scrolls.

The first one is Bleach themed. The second one is Final Fantasy XI themed. I will be taking pictures of them tonight and putting them up in this post.

Those are kind of niche, but I believe the Bleach fan base and the Final Fantasy ones are big enough that those prizes could at least please someone you know as a present, if you don’t like those yourself.

Please note that I’ve had those for a while, but they’re in great conditions.

How you can win and all the details after the jump.
