E3 2017 Expectations

May 12th, 2017 No comments

We are a month off from E3. E3 is a big time for gamers, while simultaneously not being much of anything at the end of it. We expect big announcements and stuff, and usually what we end up getting is “in a year or 2 or 5 you’ll be able to play this!” sort of announcements. I usually turn out not too excited after E3 is done, even though I REALLY enjoy watching everything that comes out of it every year. I watch all the conferences (usually twice since I post about them afterwards), I watch all the trailers that weren’t shown at the conferences, several streams showing stuff on the floor… I’m an E3-holic.

I want to write this now rather than later, because if I wait rumors will pop up and this kind of post won’t mean much. “Hey there’s these rumors so that will be my predictions lol”. Wow much insight and thought. Instead of just naming random shit and calling them predictions, I’ll talk about my overall expectations for each of the presentations.

So yeah, let’s talk about everyone having a presentation there at least. I’m not gonna try to guess what EVERY company will show.

E3 2016 Overall Thoughts

June 17th, 2016 No comments

So we just had ourselves another E3. It sure was an event. With things happening.

I wrote impressions for the presentations, I think I was pretty clear about what I thought. So let’s just go.

E3 2016 Day 1 and 2 impressions – Nintendo

June 15th, 2016 No comments

Alright so my second to last E3 post, and fully focused on Nintendo because not much public-facing stuff really happened otherwise.

So these are impressions I wrote as I was watching their 2 days of presentations. Slightly edited to make them somewhat postable.

Let’s go!

E3 2016 Day 0 impressions: Microsoft, Ubisoft and Sony

June 13th, 2016 No comments

Day -1 was a bust. Maybe the biggest day for non-attendees will be better. Here’s my impressions of Day 0.

My impressions were written live (with some editing to make said impressions postable). I mostly ignored the PC Gaming Show because it was… barely a thing. Whatever. The new AMD stuff was cool, nothing else of note there.

And in 2 days I’ll have a post about Nintendo, and a post about E3 as a whole (hopefully more non-conference stuff pops up).

E3 2016 Day -1 impressions: EA and Bethesda

June 13th, 2016 No comments

E3 is ON! The most exciting week of the year for gamers, or so they claim. But if Day -1 of E3 2016 is any indications, there’s not much to be excited about.

My plan for E3 is one impressions post every “big” day. So day -1, day 0 and day 1 and 2 (as a single post about Nintendo), plus my overall thoughts in a final post.

So let’s go with my on-the-spot impressions of EA’s embarrassment and Bethesda’s… nothing? Note that my impressions were written live, I just edited them a bit after the fact.

E3 2016: Pre-E3 hopes and expectations

May 3rd, 2016 No comments

So we’re getting to E3 time pretty soon. Game announcements, hype, and disappointment all over the place from all of those present. I know I’m early on this, but there’s a very good reason… Okay, first reason is just because I wrote all this already and don’t want to sit on it for too long like another post I’ve been writing for, like, 2 years (I’ll have it out soon I swear), but more specifically, we’re just a bit before E3 rumors start blasting us in the face so I want to talk a bit before that happens. I don’t care if some of what I wrote ends up being invalidated before E3, whatever. I doubt most of it will.

So here I want to talk specifically about the live-streamed press events, since that’s what the general public actually sees of E3. These are my hopes and expectations for the companies that are having press conferences this year (and one that might not).

Note: When E3 conferences start I’ll post my impressions of each press conference. This is just my thoughts before any kind of really big E3 hype starts settling in.

E3 2015 rant!

June 17th, 2015 No comments

Alright, E3 time! And you know what that means! Yes, it’s time once again for me to angrily hate on everything that was shown at all the big presentations (alright, I wrote this part before the conference, I do quite the opposite if you skip to the end here). This includes Microsoft, Sony, EA, Ubisoft, Bethesda, Nintendo, Square Enix and “PC Gaming”, whatever and whoever that is.

My E3 hype-level before the presentations wasn’t really high. I had low expectations for every company doing a presentation. Sony, Microsoft, EA and Ubisoft always disappoint, Nintendo is very hit-or-miss, and I ran under the assumption that Square Enix wasn’t gonna be all that interesting, and that Bethesda would just be happy to have shown up at all.

I previously had “reactions” written down for everything in all the presentations for his post, but that was WAY too long, so I figured I’d reduce the length by a lot.

So let’s go, here’s my E3 conference thoughts! A quick intro for each presentation (wrote those before seeing the conferences), and a quick summary of my thoughts for each of the conferences with highlights and lowlights for each of them.

E3 2014 rant

June 15th, 2014 No comments

Alright, so we just had ourselves an E3. This should be the most exciting time of the year for gamers, with tons of game reveals and news ad release dates and stuff, it’s basically gonna be awesome. E3 2014 was an oddly mixed bag, In general it was uncharacteristically bad, but there were some cool things in there.

I’ve had time to think about E3 2014 and the conferences within. And I can now do a nice opinion piece about it! So let’s dive in!

Nintendo E3 2014 reaction

June 11th, 2014 No comments

(I wanted to post that yesterday, but I forgot my USB drive so this is today, unedited from yesterday though)

So basically Microsoft and Sony handed E3 over to you Nintendo. They didn’t feel like they needed to announce much and what they did announce they didn’t feel like actually showing it to us (cinematic trailers don’t count as showing games)… So that’s it, you just have to both announce a few things and show us gameplay for it, and E3 is yours (even though everyone will say you failed solely because you’re Nintendo).

My hopes? Releases dates for Smash and Bayonetta 2, and a few unannounced games for Wii U and 3DS because they need something in their release schedule (the PS4, Vita and Xbone do too, but we already know that’s not really in their plans)

So let’s go… I’m setting my expectations REAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLY low because of the other conferences.

These are “live” reactions from watching the conferences, with the overall part written after the whole thing being my thoughts after it’s all done. Read more…

Done on E3 posts for today

June 9th, 2014 No comments

Alright, so that’s today’s 4 conferences. I’ll have another post tomorrow for Nintendo and hope they’ll do okay, since today was pretty bad for all the conferences. And I hope to get cool news outside of conferences too.

Then I’ll post a more coherent rant about this year’s E3 by the end of the week.

I will close on this for canadians:
http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/e3.aspx?icmp=home_hero_big_20140606_E32014_en

Go there. Epic pre-order sale, 30% off preorders if you order 3 games or more. Futureshop.ca is having the same deal, as is amazon.ca (though it seems glitchy right now, some people are only getting 15% off). Best Buy and Amazon.ca have different game selections, and amazon has lower base prices on many games, so definitely look at both!

They should also be adding games that were announced at E3 (like, the 2 of them so far).
