Trying to find good mobile games – Licensed games

May 25th, 2017 No comments

So I’m always looking for something good to play on my phone. For those moments where my handhelds are home and I want to waste a few minutes, or I’m watching something and I want to do something that requires little thought at the same time. Problem is, good games on mobile isn’t really a thing.

So here I’m gonna talk about a few games I’ve tried, with one metric: it’s all games that are based on existing IPs. Because why not.

… Yeah I’m bored. Why else would I post about mobile games?

Super Mario Run mini-review

April 1st, 2017 No comments

Well this is Mario’s first foray in the land of legal smartphone gaming (there’s been plenty of people managing to release games where they blatantly use Mario assets without Nintendo’s permission… iOS is weird). It recently came out on Android, so I decided to pick it up.

Was it a mistake? Read on and see! I’ll make this very quick.

Pokemon Duel impressions

February 9th, 2017 No comments

And out of nowhere, right before releasing Fire Emblem Heroes, Nintendo also released Pokemon Duel. It was called Pokemon Co-master in Japan, and apparently didn’t even warrant Nintendo announcing it at all. I get that it’s The Pokemon Company releasing it, but they’re a subsidiary of Nintendo so… I dunno, seems a bit odd that it would get NO buzz.

I’m not really far into this yet but whatever. This is just an impressions post. I don’t think this kind of game really warrants a full-on review. Let’s go!

Fire Emblem Heroes impressions

Fire Emblem Heroes
Mobile games just tend to not be good. I’ve been searching long and hard for good mobile games, and the only ones that end up being acceptable tend to be digital versions of already-good board games.

So here comes Nintendo in the mobile scene. I haven’t played Super Mario Run yet because it’s not out on Android (and not compatible on my iPod), but they have given a big spotlight to Fire Emblem Heroes. Before the announcement I joked that they’d make it a Gacha game with permadeath. I guess I was close enough, since it is a Gacha game.

So I thought I’d give my impressions about the game. Not really a review, not sure a game like this is “reviewable”. Let’s do this and see if this finally provides a good mobile gaming experience.

(this is not the last mobile game I will talk about, as I keep searching for any that are actually good)

Games coming out in December 2016

November 26th, 2016 No comments

So in the November release post I never updated that Dragon Ball Fusions was coming out. It got its release date changed from December to November partway through the month. I expect to play it soon if Amazon.ca stop being shit and actually send it to me. I also have a few other posts planned. Not sure I can keep the number of posts going as much as I have recently (which is a lot more than usual), but I’ll try.

Oh and I won’t put Shantae on the list again, if it comes out it comes out, I’m not expecting it until next year at this point. Also Wild Guns Reloaded seems to have a december release date now, but sources are all over the place for that, some saying it’s in japan only and stuff. So I dunno what’s up.

So despite December being in the heart of the holiday season, no one likes releasing games in December. That has always baffled me just a little. This month we’re getting basically nothing, as per tradition. 1 PS4 release, 1 3DS release, a mobile release that I consider somewhat noteworthy and 2 multiplat releases.

Usual disclaimer: This includes either games I’m interested in, games that may be/become popular and random stuff in-between… Basically anything I feel bears mentioning. Probably missing stuff because game companies are shit about announcing release dates nowadays (and good at delaying games near release). Indies in particular are kinda random, or bad at making their games known (no, putting your release date in your kickstarter updates isn’t gonna get the word out). So if there’s no indie games here, it’s pretty normal. I’m just highlighting the most noteworthy stuff and the stuff that actually has release dates that are easy to find.

Not much to see here, but maybe something is interesting for you here?
