Wow, this year kinda sucked… In a way.
Usually I do a lot of GotY posts, with one per major system/handheld and one for multiplat releases (since including multiplat releases in “best of X system” awards is retarded GameTrailers), as well as overall winners, with 3-5 winners in each category if possible (because I feel it’s ridiculous to call anything a “best” game, and I like choice). This year there just aren’t enough great games for that.
Not to say there weren’t good games, but very few that I feel were good enough to be in the running for GotY. So, due to that, I decided to go at it in a very simple manner and do one post, and maybe put a couple honorable mentions at the bottom for games I didn’t feel were GotY caliber.
So… let’s go with this year’s winners right away!
(Please note: I may not have played every game that came out in 2012, so sorry if I missed anything that you feel should win… oh, and FUCK Journey and FUCK anyone who likes that vapid non-game POS… yes, that means you Jim Sterling)

Here’s one that I think a lot of people want actually. Gargoyle’s Quest is quite well known as one of the better games on the original Game Boy, but it has quite a legacy, with one of its biggest problems being that it just died out of nowhere after the BEST game in that series.
So here’s what I have to say about this series that I really want to see making a comeback!

Aww yeah, it’s Battletoads! One of the most hated and yet most loved classic game series. It’s notable due to every game in the series being balls hard, but a lot of people don’t look past the difficulty, like me, and see that they’re also really good games.
So let’s go and talk about one of my most played NES games and its series and see why I want it to come back!

For the first post of this type, I’ll talk about one of my favorite games (amongst many others). It does have a pretty decent reputation among retro gamers and did get quite a bit of recognition recently, but it’s not frequently mentioned as one of the better games on the NES and it frankly should. Star Tropics is a truly unique action-adventure game in the Zelda mold, but with very unique gameplay design to it.
Let’s check out why I think it deserves to return!

OH hey, I’m forgetting to post this, I’ll do that right now. So releases of August… a few cool things here.
We’ve got… the same NES release as last month but maybe it’ll actually come out, 2 3DS games (and a 3DS version), 2 PS3 exclusives, 1 Wii exclusive and 6 multiplatform games.
Those include either games I’m interested in, or games that may be/become popular… Basically anything I feel bears mentioning, whether I’m personally hyped for it or not. No shovelware here… Other than Madden.

And now the slow time of the year. July is usually very light on releases, one of the lightest months of the year except maybe for December, and this July is no exception other than for the 3DS.
We’re still getting some stuff. The 3DS has a staggering 4 releases, the Wii has a release, the PSP has a release, PSN and XBLA are getting something (I’m not sure when Jet Set Radio HD is supposed to come so I haven’t included it), and the NES is pretty likely to get something too. And it’s pretty much quality all-around.

I love when new NES games come out. It’s something of a rarity, so it’s always great to see an old system getting an actual game, instead of newer systems getting new games made to kinda look like they were made on the older systems. There’s just something really cool about it.
This is Nomolos: Storming the Catsle, an NES game that I frankly have trouble comparing to other games. Some people have been saying it’s like Castlevania, but I find it very different.
So read on and see if the game is worth checking out! This’ll be a quickie.

June! Games! Stuff! Words! Yeah, I don’t have anything to say this month. Let’s just talk about the games that are coming out.
So there’s a couple things coming out in June. Let’s see… a 3DS release, a DS release, a PSP release, 2 Vita releases, a Wii release, a PS3 release, 3 Xbox 360 releases (whoa!) and five multiplatform releases… And even possibly another NES release! Seems like everything is getting something in june!
Those include either games I’m interested in, or games that may be/become popular… Basically anything I feel bears mentioning, whether I’m personally hyped for it or not.

(European boxart)
Reviewing an old NES game, yay! This isn’t any old NES game though, it’s Mr Gimmick, a Sunsoft game that never came out in America, and some would say one of the best games on the system.
It came out in Japan and Europe, seemingly both including special chipsets for enhanced music. The game was also planned for an American release, to the point where it got a prototype that was pretty much ready for release. It had a few minor changes, specifically to the music so that it could play it without needed special chips in the cartridge.
The prototype was eventually found, and the folks at retrousb.com went and made a reproduction cart for all to play. So is it as good as people have said? Read on and see!

Talk about not writing about what I said I would… mostly because I’m playing too much stuff at the same time. I’m still planning about writing about some of the things I mentioned before (and more upcoming stuff), but it may come later.
So what’s coming in May… just a couple things, not a whole lot of high-quality stuff. 1 and a half PC releases (Edit: Now 2 and a half), 2 3DS releases, 3 PS3 exclusives, 2 Vita games, somehow 2 360 releases and 7 multiplatform games, (Edit: and an NES game). Those include either games I’m interested in, or games that may or may not be popular… Well, basically anything I feel bears mentioning, whether I’m personally hyped for it or not.
So let’s see if there’s anything interesting.
*Post updated to include an extra PC game, and an extra NES game*
*Post updated again on May 14th to add a new 360 game, what?*
