Do you remember Jetpack? It was one of those awesome PC games from the first half of the 90s (originally released in 1993, then re-released as a freeware in 1995). If the screenshot doesn’t rings any bells for you, Jetpack was your typical puzzle action game at the time. This one, and this might or not surprise you, used a jetpack as its main gameplay element. You had to pick up all the green emeralds in a level while avoiding traps and enemies and then make your exit through a door.
Adept Software is now re-releasing the game officially in Web format, apparently ending “one of the longest Vaporware runs ever, since a sequel had been promised since 1995.” according to the press release.
15 years later, the re-release of Jetpack will include significant enhancements to the classic game, including web play, high-res graphics, remastered sounds and music, and new levels. It will also include a pixelated “retro mode” to let fans reminisce about the original game.
Now, to the interesting part is, this being an indie project, the developer is looking for fan-submitting content to be used in the game. This will guarantee your name being in the credits, but it will also give you a chance at winning a money prize.
Prizes
A total of $200 will go to the 6 people who create the most content chosen for use in Jetpack.
The top 2 will receive $50.00
4 runners-up will receive $25.00
They are looking for level designers, but also graphic, sound effects and music designers, so give your artist side a spin if you feel like it and help out what seems to be an interesting project to get some little experience in game development, if that’s your thing.
