E3 2017 – Final thoughts

June 16th, 2017 No comments

E3 2017 is done. It was pretty bad, especially after having time to sleep on it and think about what was shown.

I already wrote about the specific presentations in a “live commentary” style (semi-live when it comes to Bethesda), look at my previous posts for that. This is more about the entirety of the online experience of E3 2017 (not really sure why people rushed out to get tickets to actually go there and wait in lines), and other ranty notes.

Let’s go!

E3 2017 impressions – Day -1: Sony

June 12th, 2017 No comments

My PS4 was actually turned on a few times this year, so that’s an improvement over last year. Sony needs to keep that up though. And there’s a distinct chance they could, but for that they need to go all-out at E3. Let’s see!

Second post today: Sony’s E3 Presentation.

Let’s hope it’s good and not just Knack 2.

Nintendo post tomorrow.

E3 2017 impressions – Day -1: Ubisoft

June 12th, 2017 No comments

Since my “expectations” post we did get some new info, specifically about Far Cry 5 (see: not Blood Dragon 2 so who cares) and a leak for Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle (I expect it here rather than Nintendo’s Spotlight presentation (with a segment for it at the treehouse stream later)), so hey, there might be something worth mentioning here… I expect nothing new other than Mario + Rabbids.

First post today: Ubisoft’s E3 Presentation

I assume that right now we need to get ready for a really bad dance number first… let’s see.

E3 2017 impressions – Day -2: Bethesda

June 12th, 2017 No comments

Okay you Bethesda fuckers… fuck you. People work on Monday, you get that, right? Why would you have this kind of presentation at MIDNIGHT (I know Europe usually gets fucked as far as these go, but not usually east coast US)? Fuck that I’m not watching this live. Thankfully I can still make semi-live reactions the morning after before going to work. Which is what I’m doing right now… Let’s watch this shit.

Day -2 part 2: Bethesda’s E3 Conference. Again these are “live impressions” (I avoided spoilers before watching after the fact). Yes we’re technically on Day -1 now but it’s a Day -2 presentation so whatever 😛

Let’s go! Get hyped for lots of DLC announcement probably.

(2 more posts laters today!)

E3 2017 impressions – Day -2: Microsoft

June 11th, 2017 No comments

Alright, so Day -3 was kinda lame with EA, but we’re done with that and it’s Day -2 now. Microsoft is usually one of the bigger ones, but they tend to not really announce much of note either.

So today’s semilive commentary: Microsoft’s E3 presentation. That is live but then edited to make sure it’s readable.

I was gonna post Bethesda at the same time tonight, but I work tomorrow and Bethesda delayed their presentation to midnight on the east coast (it was previously a couple hours earlier), so I’ll wake up early tomorrow and do a “slightly less live” impressions for that then and post it before going to work.

E3 2017 impressions – Day -3: EA

June 11th, 2017 No comments

So it begins. Another year, another E3, another set of posts featuring me complaining about everything.

The idea for the next few posts is that I’ll take notes and write impressions during the E3 presentations, and post those straight up, with “overall impressions” at the end (but still written as the presentation is winding down, to keep it “live”). I will edit my notes and impressions to make them… readable… but these ARE live impressions. I’ll have more in-depth impressions about the show later on.

Today: Day -3 featuring EA’s presentation

(forgot to hit publish yesterday, oops)

Games coming out in June 2017

May 22nd, 2017 No comments

E3 is coming! As are my posts complaining that, once again, E3 sucked. And I can prove it sucked, because more than half the shit that was announced last year (or the year before, or the year before) still hasn’t come out. I don’t know if there’s any reason to be hyped about at this year’s E3 as a whole, but we’ll see. Someone could surprise us. At least we’ll see some Mario so that’s something. But as I mentioned in my E3 expectations post, I still love E3 even when it’s… not ideal. It’s still something I look forward to very much.

I will have several posts about E3 as usual. One combined post for Day -3 and Day -2 (EA, MS and Bethesda), one for Day -1 (Sony and Ubisoft and maybe the PC Gaming Show if that’s worth talking about), one for Day 1 (Nintendo and hopefully other random mentions of things that weren’t at the conferences), and finally, once E3 is over, an overall thoughts post.

So anyways, on to actual game releases in June. Not a huge month but there’s a small handful of cool things in there. I am getting a few of these for sure.

In addition to E3, June has: 9 multiplats, 3 PS4 games, 5 Switch games, 1 Vita game and 2 3DS games. I wonder how long its been since the Xbone got anything.

Let’s go!

Usual disclaimer: This includes either games I’m interested in, games that may be/become popular and random stuff in-between… Basically anything I feel bears mentioning for any reason. Probably missing stuff because game companies are shit about announcing release dates nowadays (and good at delaying games near release), indies especially. So if there’s no/few indie games here, it’s pretty normal.

Puyo Puyo Tetris mini-review

May 3rd, 2017 No comments

Puyo Puyo Tetris
I don’t feel like I need to go in-depth on a game like this. I mean, it’s Tetris, and Puyo Puyo.

Just thought I’d write a quick thing about it though, because it’s really fun.

So let’s go.

Games coming out in May 2017

April 27th, 2017 No comments

I blinked, is April over already? That was fast, after March felt so long to me. Okay so time for May I guess. April had a few big releases and I did manage to get a few reviews out, and I still need to review some stuff (Persona 5 is a beast, time-wise, but I will get as close to the ending as I can before writing anything about it… I might be getting close, who knows). Thankfully, May has very little of note, so I can rest a bit easy.

The count in May: 14 multiplats,  2 3DS releases, 3 Switch releases, 1 PS4 release and 1 Vita release. I’m buying almost nothing this month.

So let’s get it over with!

Usual disclaimer: This includes either games I’m interested in, games that may be/become popular and random stuff in-between… Basically anything I feel bears mentioning. Probably missing stuff because game companies are shit about announcing release dates nowadays (and good at delaying games near release). Indies in particular are kinda random, or bad at making their games known (I get that it’s hard, but if I don’t see anything about your game before it comes out, I can’t very much highlight it). So if there’s no/few indie games here, it’s pretty normal. I won’t spend hours that I could be playing games watching videos for indie games I have no immediate interest in.

*EDITED AGAIN May 2nd*

Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap review

April 24th, 2017 No comments

Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap

So this is pretty weird. There’s 2 games based on Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap (third in the really weird Wonder Boy series) this year. There’s Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom which is basically a spiritual successor, and this one, which is a port/remake of the original. Both looked pretty good.

I actually never played the original Dragon’s Trap, which was on Sega Master System, Game Gear and TurboGrafx-16. I was always looking for it back when I was collecting “retro” games, but it’s a game that has alluded me (as far as finding it for reasonable non-ebay prices). So it was great to get a chance to actually play it. (note: I believe the TurboGrafx-16 version is called Dragon’s Curse, in case you were wondering)

So let’s go and see if I was missing on something cool!
