Talk about a stealth release. It came completely out of nowhere on the XBLA, with no announcement or anything by Atari for a release date, and then it came out on Steam out of nowhere. WTF?
Anyways, this is a sequel to the best selling Atari-made game on the Atari 2600, Yars’ Revenge (notice the different placement of the apostrophe in the title). Or at least some sort of revival. Yars’ Revenge is probably my favorite Atari 2600 game, one that I replay frequently, so that alone made this a sure-buy for me. The shift in gameplay styles wasn’t much of a problem to me, since I doubt keeping the original gameplay would have been a great idea here.
Read on and see if it lives up to its predecessor!

Well January was a bit short on interesting releases. We have a few reviews left to write from what came out in the month, but until that happens let’s take a look at what games are coming out in February 2011, AKA a much more interesting month than January.
There’s a good amount of releases in February: 5 multiplatform games, 4 PS3 exclusives (one of which is a japanese release), 1 Xbox 360 exclusive, 1 Wii exclusive, 2 DS games and 2 PSP games. Keep in mind those are the interesting releases, there’s obviously a bunch of shovelware.

Downloadable games have been crazy this year. Really, choosing 4 winners out of all the great games that came out was a very hard thing to do. May it be throwbacks to older games, sequels to classic games, HD remakes of classic games, or just overall really good downloadable games, this was a category with a LOT of potential winners, and all of them would have fit right in for this list.
As the other posts, if one of your favorites is missing on the list, you can comment to tell us what you think deserved a spot, but, rest assured, it was most likely one of our possible winners. That, or we didn’t play it (for example, I don’t have a DSi, so I didn’t play the new Shantae… dammit). There were, after all, many fantastic downloadable games this year.
So read on and see what won over the other great downloadable games that came out this year! The are out winners for Best Downloadable Games of 2010!

Super Meat Boy! The game that confuses people now since it has the same abbreviation as Super Mario Bros!
It’s about a boy without skin going to save a girl covered in bandages, from the evil hands of Doctor Fetus, an actual fetus in a robotic suit. The premise itself sounds all sorts of awesome, and then we see that it’s a super-hard super-precise platformer where you die in one hit and any minor error will kill you? Damn right I’m interested.
So read on and see if I liked it as much as I was hoping!
(Note: I’m starting the GotY posts either tonight or tomorrow morning)

Pinball is awesome. Marvel is awesome. So, obviously, mixing the two should result in awesomeness.
So yeah, this is made by the guys who made Zen Pinball, and I LOVED Zen Pinball. As such, I don’t really feel the need to do a complete review of this, but, instead, I’ll quickly comment on each of the tables available in the package.
So read on and see if they’re fun here!

Pac-Man, one of the legendaries in the gaming industry. Despite being part of a few less-than-stellar platforming and adventure games, and the infamous Atari 2600 port (which really IS as bad as you might have heard), Pac-Man’s original gameplay style remains timeless and one of the best pure gameplay experiences ever. Basically, if you don’t like Pac-Man, you can’t consider yourself a gamer. It’s that awesome.
When I checked the demo for this game, I didn’t think I’d end up buying it, considering I already have a few versions of Pac-Man available to me (on NES, on Atari 2600 (there’s actually 2 good Pac-Man games on there, people tend to forget those because of the crappy port), the arcade version in my MAME cabinet), but then I saw something that got my attention: this game has a BOMB button. A Pac-Man game with a bomb button? What the heck? That’s awesome! I had to buy it.
Needless to say I instantly picked it up after experiencing the furious gameplay. So read on and see exactly why I liked it so much!

Sonic 4! A true sequel to the Genesis series of Sonic games! Or so this is what it was advertised as. I wasn’t the only one who was caught by the hype.
But, as with most people, I was a slight bit skeptical about it since, you know, Sonic didn’t get a proper console game since… let’s say Adventure 2, but even that had a lot of lameness (AKA all the levels where you didn’t control Sonic/Shadow). The handheld games were okay, though never anywhere near the quality of the Genesis titles, but otherwise Sonic has really been having trouble, and frankly no one can deny that.
I did play the iPhone version when that came out, but I’ll comment on that later.
So read on and see if Sonic is moving away from sucking, or if he’s staying in his comfort zone of crap.
(I’ll be trying out a new review format here, just to see if I like it better than my usual “categories” stuff)

Shank was a game that really intrigued me for quite a while. It looked cool, but I was unsure if it was gonna be good, or just needlessly violent to appeal to the masses. The gameplay seemed interesting, but, without playing it, it was hard to tell.
So I finally got to play it, and… I’m pretty satisfied, if not a bit annoyed at a few things.
Read on and see what I liked and disliked about Shank!

Well, this week has been a dream week for Scott Pilgrim fans, with the movie coming out on Friday, and the game coming out on Tuesday on the PSN.
Just from the trailers, it was clear this game was gonna be great, and obviously a tribute to games of the old. The trailers displayed colorful graphics, fun gameplay, and incredible 8-bit music. Enough to make any gamer happy.
So obviously I was hyped for the game, and not just because I loved the Scott Pilgrim comics, but because it looked like a legitimately great game.
Read on and see if I was right!
