The “Why Nintendo might be back” rant

July 20th, 2017 No comments

So Nintendo. They’re very much worth talking about recently. They’re really interesting. When the competition is happy with not doing much of anything, essentially stagnating, it’s nice to see Nintendo not only shaking things up, but also being properly successful again too.

There were a lot of questions related to the release of the Switch after the failure that was the Wii U (a console I really enjoyed and defended quite a bit despite its obvious shortcomings and Nintendo’s blatantly stupid decisions) and how the company was run during the Wii. After several months of the Switch being out and their overall direction being more obvious than at launch.

So I thought… hey let’s rant about Nintendo somewhat. I’ve talked a bit about the Switch a good amount this year, but this is a bit more than that.

This is a BIIIIG rant, so grab some popcorn.

Games coming out in June 2017

May 22nd, 2017 No comments

E3 is coming! As are my posts complaining that, once again, E3 sucked. And I can prove it sucked, because more than half the shit that was announced last year (or the year before, or the year before) still hasn’t come out. I don’t know if there’s any reason to be hyped about at this year’s E3 as a whole, but we’ll see. Someone could surprise us. At least we’ll see some Mario so that’s something. But as I mentioned in my E3 expectations post, I still love E3 even when it’s… not ideal. It’s still something I look forward to very much.

I will have several posts about E3 as usual. One combined post for Day -3 and Day -2 (EA, MS and Bethesda), one for Day -1 (Sony and Ubisoft and maybe the PC Gaming Show if that’s worth talking about), one for Day 1 (Nintendo and hopefully other random mentions of things that weren’t at the conferences), and finally, once E3 is over, an overall thoughts post.

So anyways, on to actual game releases in June. Not a huge month but there’s a small handful of cool things in there. I am getting a few of these for sure.

In addition to E3, June has: 9 multiplats, 3 PS4 games, 5 Switch games, 1 Vita game and 2 3DS games. I wonder how long its been since the Xbone got anything.

Let’s go!

Usual disclaimer: This includes either games I’m interested in, games that may be/become popular and random stuff in-between… Basically anything I feel bears mentioning for any reason. Probably missing stuff because game companies are shit about announcing release dates nowadays (and good at delaying games near release), indies especially. So if there’s no/few indie games here, it’s pretty normal.

Game I won’t review – Strafe

May 13th, 2017 No comments

This sounds exactly like the kind of game I would love. Rogue-lite FPS with classic 90s graphics and an apparent emphasis on fast frantic gameplay.

So why am I not reviewing this? Because I’m fucking tired of it with less than 4 hours played.

So let’s talk about it quickly anyways.

Games I won’t review: Vita games – Hatsune Miku Diva X, Shiren the Wanderer

September 12th, 2016 No comments

I really just want to get a post out there since I’m not posting much recently. It’s another not-review. Next post will be a proper review, and might be soon.

The latest US release of Hatsune Miku, Project Diva X, and a game I forgot to cancel my pre-order for, Shiren the Wanderer: The Tower of Fortune and the Dice of Fate (stupid long name). One of those may end up just being a rant towards a series I don’t like…

Let’s go!

Games coming out in February 2015

February 2nd, 2015 No comments

Yeah, I’m slow on the blog in recent months. I hope on getting more active but I’m just not finding a whole lot to write about. So few games are coming out I just don’t have stuff to review. I might need to get some ranting going on soon, if I find something I really want to rant about.

So, February… After the no-show that was January, there’s at least some stuff here. Of interest? Don’t hold your breath too much, unless you like Kirby. Here we have a Wii U game, 4 multiplats, 3 Vita games, 1 PS4 movie and 2 3DS games (and a system).

So let’s go!

Games I’m personally hyped for in 2012

January 10th, 2012 No comments

Well, 2011 was pretty awesome, but I’m sure 2012 has a lot of gaming experiences coming that will be really awesome as well. I figure, why not highlight the games I’m personally hyped for? It should give a good idea of what’s coming and such. Just as a note, this is a personal list, so don’t be disappointed/unhappy/mad/a raging moron when Gears of War in Space isn’t on the list. Also, this is just an outlook from the moment it was posted, so anything not announced at the moment of posting will obviously not be in this list, and I probably won’t update it.

Hopefully this ends up being a bit more insightful than other posts I’ve seen like this… Where all that was said about most games was “The graphics look good!”… yeah, but what about the game itself? Give some detail about why you’re hyped about a game, dammit!

So let’s go! (and yes, I’m being incredibly cheap and lazy, not including any images here, w00!)

Virtual Console Review – Ufouria: The Saga

November 1st, 2010 1 comment

Releases on the virtual console have been few and far between lately on the Wii, almost has few and far between as I’ve been posting lately. Is it because they’re running out of good games to put on it? I highly doubt so. Only Nintendo would really know what the hell is going on.

I wrote most of this review a while back, so I’ll keep the old format, but from my next post, I’ll use the same system Jo started using.

But enough rambling. This week they released a NES/Famicom gem that hadn’t seen a release in North America. It was called Hebereke in Japan and Ufouria in PAL regions. It was featured adventure-action gameplay similar to games like Metroid, but overall took from all that was good about games from the NES era while also showing hints of more recent standards in videogames, like infinite continues and the ability to pick right back up where you last left (assuming in this case you wrote down the password, which you’ll probably won’t need as you can beat the game in one sit).

So was the 20 years wait in North America worth it? You know the drill, find out after the jump.

Video Games in 2009: What are the good titles coming out?

December 27th, 2008 9 comments

Well, Christmas has passed, the new year is coming, and now it’s time to see what is coming for us next year.
After such a good gaming year in 2008, can 2009 top it?

I’ve compiled a list of the great games coming out next year, so check it out to see if it’s gonna be a good year for you.
Of course, some games are not confirmed for 2009, and there might be some games that haven’t been announced yet, so this is in no way a 100% complete list, but it should include enough to have interesting games for every gamer out there.
Well, without delay let’s jump into this!

Best of 2008: Video Games

December 15th, 2008 3 comments

2008 has been a great year in gaming. Companies putting up really fun current-gen entries to old series, some new stuff and overall, whatever system you have (unless you just have a Wii), it was a great year to be a gamer.

So I’ve decided to compile a list of the best games of the year. But I’ll do this a bit differently. Instead of making my own list, I’ll have input from all 4 writers on this site. So without further ado, let’s dig into this!

DS Review: Kirby Super Star Ultra

September 27th, 2008 No comments

Hey everyone, Jobocan here, and bringing you the first review on Save Point!

Kirby has always been one of Nintendo’s really big names, and calling Kirby Super Star on the SNES one of the best games on a system would be quite the understatement. When I heard that the game was getting ported on the DS, I was really happy about it, and thought that taking one of the best SNES games and modifying it for the DS would be one of the best things ever.
Well after playing through most of it (96% to be exact) I must say I was almost right.
