Games coming out in October 2011

September 18th, 2011

Well just because I’m bored, I’m writing this early, yay! October 2011… I was actually expecting more interesting releases, but I guess we may have to wait until November. In the meantime, there’s still a couple interesting games here.

Let’s see… for October 2011 we have:  9 multiplatform releases, 3 PS3 releases, 3 3DS releases, 2 Xbox 360 releases, 2 PC releases and the first truly great Wii release of the year (note: yes Mario Sports Mix was good, but definitely not GREAT)! Don’t forget this only includes interesting or potentially popular games, and it maybe be missing a couple hidden gems (and downloadable games, these rarely get release dates this fast). I try to not include shovelware in these lists.

So read on and see what you’ll be buying!

Games coming out in June 2011

May 18th, 2011

It’s June! The time of E3, awesome game announcements and, sometimes, interesting releases. This year does actually have a few good games coming out in June.

We have 3-4 3DS releases (and, depending on how you see it, we have more than that), 10 multiplatform releases, 1 Xbox 360 release, 1 PS3 release, 1 Wii release and 1 DS release.

Let’s add to that the fact that the PSN Network just got back up, the store will be online soon and will play catch-up with all the missed updates, so there may be a few good releases there (and don’t forget to pick up your free games once the store is back up… as a note, the best choices are inFamous and Dead Nation, so if you don’t have those… get them!).

Read on and see if you’re picking anything up!

Epic Mickey review/impressions

December 6th, 2010

Well this is a game I wasn’t too sure about. When I saw the developers talking about it in interviews and such, it sounded AWESOME. Seeing gameplay videos made it seemed sort of boring to play. So this is a game I really wanted to rent just to see how it was…

So read on and see if it’s as awesome as the developers have been saying! This is more of an impressions post since I didn’t get to the end, but I did go a good way through.

Kirby’s Epic Yarn review

October 23rd, 2010

Kirby is awesome. He’s always been awesome. After his beginnings on the Game Boy, and his first real masterpiece with Kirby’s Adventure on the NES, he’s been kicking ass and taking names. His last real home console outing was on the N64, not counting Kirby’s Air Ride since it was a spin-off, so this has been a long time in waiting for Kirby fans (well, gamers in general really, everyone SHOULD love Kirby since his games are solid). Kirby is frankly one of the only characters in all of gaming to not have one bad game out, even his spin-offs were amusing enough.

After the Gamecube title was cancelled, and then rumored to come on Wii, and then cancelled again, we were losing hope that Kirby would be seen on consoles for a while still, other than his Smash Bros appearances. At least handhelds were keeping Kirby alive with a few really good titles.

When this was announced at E3, I was ecstatic. It looked a bit weird and the title was unlike anything I would ever expect from Kirby, but the gameplay videos got to me. But, after I learned you couldn’t die in the game, my interest waned. Despite that, I was still willing to give it a chance.

So read on and see if it was worth giving a chance to!

NBA Jam review

October 16th, 2010

Ah, NBA Jam… A classic game that I did play a few times as a kid, but I never really got too hardcore into it, and I sucked badly at it.

But when I saw it was getting a remake, I knew I had to check it out. It looked very much like the classic gameplay-wise, but with better graphics. It looked really fun. But I didn’t buy it because… well, because it’s on a disc rather than being downloadable, which it really should be.

Anyways, enough about that, let’s actually talk about the game. Read on!

Batman: The Brave and the Bold – The Videogame review

October 4th, 2010

I recently heard about this new Batman cartoon… because the games were announced… maybe I should watch more TV. Anyways, the game itself looked fairly interesting from what I had seen, with it being a good-looking side-scrolling beat ‘em up. I thought “that’s gonna be a fun little downloadable game on PS3/360″. But, sadly, I found out it was a disc-based game on the Wii, so I was reluctant to buy it. Which is why I only rented it.

I tried the DS version, but decided not to review because…. it wasn’t bad, but it was stupidly easy and took an hour and a half to complete. So I didn’t feel like I played enough to review it, even if I finished it…

So read on and see if this new Batman is worth checking out, since the DS version isn’t! This is gonna be a short review.

Wii impressions – Shiren the Wanderer

February 26th, 2010

This is gonna be a short post. Partly because I haven’t played much of the game(a bit over 4 hours) and I don’t plan on playing it ever again, and partly because, frankly, there’s not much to say about it. As such, I also won’t be posting a full review.

Shiren is an established franchise is Japan, starting… either on the SNES or the Game Boy. It has multiple games spanning multiple consoles including the  previously mentioned ones, as well as N64, GBA, PC, PSP, GBC, Dreamcast and DS. We got the DS version in America 2 years ago, so this is the second game in the series that we get here.

I did play a bit of the DS version, and didn’t enjoy it much. I actually barely heard about the Wii release until just before it came out, and didn’t really inform myself about it, but I did rent it a few weeks after release.

So read on and see what I thought of it!
