Trinity Universe review

July 22nd, 2010

While Record of Agarest War was just like Cross Edge in almost every way, this is another game I had up as this year’s candidate for “game that will have the same kind of reviews as Cross Edge”. Surprisingly enough, it seems like people were a bit more lenient on this one than they were with Cross Edge. Granted, it doesn’t suffer from as many problems as Cross Edge, but it’s still aiming at exactly the same audience.

I was interested in the game partly because of the Disgaea crossovers, but also because the gameplay seemed fairly solid. So I had some fairly good expectations for this.

Record of Agarest War review

July 22nd, 2010
(Despite the Xbox 360 boxart here, the PS3 version is reviewed… there’s no PS3 boxart so I went with the closest thing)
Remember Cross Edge? It came out last year, and it was hated by critics and gamers overall. But I still thought it was a very fun game, there were just a lot of hurdles to jump over before really getting to enjoy it, hurdles which the average gamer or reviewer just didn’t want to bother with (which is quite understandable). And then there’s the fact that it was incredibly badly optimized, with pixelated/blurry 2D graphics and relatively long load times (even when the game was installed). It was still a fun game, with a really good battle system and lots of fun leveling systems.

This year we get Record of Agarest War. Made by the same company, and it has a lot in common. So maybe this is this year’s “Cross Edge” in a sense. It’s been out for a while now, I just took my sweet time playing it and finally getting to review it. But, from the little research I made, I found that it got more favorable reviews than Cross Edge did.

So read on and see if it really deserves the slightly more favorable reviews!

Joe Danger review (PSN)

June 17th, 2010

Sometimes games don’t need incredible budget and huge teams to be made. As proof, Joe Danger is a game that was made by a team of only 4 people. A very ambitious group to say the least.

The trailers for this game were quite interesting. Seemed like Excitebike, but with bigger jumps and various other obstacles. I waited a bit after it came out, but caved in and shelled out the 15$.

Read on and see if it was worth it!

Quick review – Zen Pinball (PSN)

June 6th, 2010

Everyone loves pinball, right? I mean, there’s nothing more enjoyable than skillfully aiming at ramps, hitting targets, and trying to prevent your balls from going to the bottom of the board. Since 1777 when primitive forms of pinball were invented (with “flippers” being added in 1947), pinball has always been fun and popular. It had some ups and downs, and people barely care about it anymore, but there’s one thing for sure: there’s really no way NOT to like pinball.

I’ve been out of the pinball scene for years now, with the last thing I played was a pinball game on Windows XP (3D Pinball: Space Cadet), though I have been wanting to play pinball for some time now. For some reason pinball machines aren’t very common around here, so actually playing pinball is rather rare. At time of release I didn’t see Zen Pinball when it came out, but after seeing some gameplay videos recently, I went and picked it up right away.

So read on and see if my thirst for pinball was satiated by Zen Pinball!

Mini review – Dante’s Inferno

June 3rd, 2010

God of War is easily the lowest tier in the action game genre, currently governed by Bayonetta and Devil May Cry 3. Dante’s Inferno seems to be taking the God of War route of action gaming: more fluff, less depth in the fighting system (which revolves around mashing buttons and spamming the same attacks over and over), QTEs up the ass… But when I played the demo a few months back, I felt like it might actually have a bit of potential.

So 4 months later I actually gave the full game a try. And I’m not going to do a full review of it… because I gave up playing halfway through. It wasn’t able to keep my interest for very long, so I can’t do a complete review, but I’ll at least give my impressions.

Read on! (this ended up a bit longer than I expected, but it’s not exactly a full review anyways :P )

Late Downloadable Game Review – Trine

April 26th, 2010

I haven’t played that one when it came out, because frankly I thought $20 was a bit high for something I really wasn’t sure about. But it recently went on special on Steam for $5, so I thought I’d take a gander and check it out. And at $5 it’s more than reasonable.

It got some pretty good reviews when it came out, so let’s see if it actually deserves all the high praise it has been getting.

Downloadable Game Review – After Burner Climax

April 23rd, 2010

After Burner is… a game I never played originally. Yeah, even when I was a kid, arcades weren’t very big around here, and as a result I never got to play After Burner. But in more recent years I did end up playing quite a few games in the series, and loving it. Well, except for the NES version, but that’s a topic for another day.

After Burner Climax came out in the arcades in 2006. Since there’s no arcades around here (the ones we DO have are just those ticket game things), I never got to play it… until now. When I found out the game was coming to the PS3 and Xbox 360, I knew I had to play it, because videos of the arcade version looked so damn awesome.

So is the game as awesome as it looked in the videos of the arcade version? Read on and find out!

Games coming in April 2010

March 20th, 2010

March was a pretty hard-hitting month, with lots of huge releases across all consoles. Obviously April won’t compare…

But I wasn’t expecting such a low number of note-worthy releases. PS3, Xbox 360, PSP and PC get no interesting exclusive releases, so we’re left with just a few interesting multi-platform releases, 3 DS releases(including 1 japanese release), and 2 Wii releases. A very slow month indeed.

It might be a small month, but still, come and check what are the interesting games coming in April 2010!

As usual, Multiplatform releases first, ordered by date, and if the game is a japanese release it is marked accordingly.

*EDIT: Monster Rancher DS was removed from the list due to it being delayed to July 2010, After Burner Climax was added*

PS3 review – Last Rebellion

March 5th, 2010

The PS3 is a bit low on unique and exclusive RPGs, and Last Rebellion seems to be offering something really nice. Turn-based, using a completely unique battle system, and being one of the few PS3 exclusive RPGs, it seems to be made to please PS3 users.

So does Last Rebellion really offer something fun and unique to PS3 users looking for fun exclusive RPGs?

Downloadable game review – Mega Man 10

March 2nd, 2010

AH yes, Capcom milking something that hasn’t really been milked since the early 90s. After the success(and awesomeness) of Mega Man 9, it was no surprise that people wanted more, and Capcom never misses the opportunity to make easy money.

Since the fans loved it so much, myself included, this game goes back to the NES style of Mega Man games again. Cover art and all. Yeah, I really love that cover art… The game features nostalgic graphics, nostalgic music and nostalgic gameplay.

Does it hold of as well as Mega Man 9, or should have Capcom stopped milking the cow already?
