iPhone review – Chaos Rings

May 14th, 2010

I never really took the iPhone/iPod Touch seriously when it comes to being a gaming system. I feel that most things you see on the platform is games you might as well find on flash game websites for free, with added motion controls. Not that that’s a bad thing, there’s definitely some fun and addictive games, but they’re more casual games than “gamers’ games”. But there are a few games that defied that on the system, and more recently Chaos Rings comes by to possibly counter anything I might have to say about the iPhone’s video game capabilities.

So let’s go right away and see if the game can change my views on the system when it comes to it being a gaming device!

Advent Children Complete (FFXIII Trial Version Set) Review

May 17th, 2009

Advent Children Complete is the Bluray release of Advent Children, the 2005 movie sequel to Final Fantasy VII. At its release, Advent Children was heralded as a masterpiece of animated cinematography – the action sequences where unlike any other with people, even to this day, referring to gravity defying battles with intense action as “very Advent Children-like”. So how does the director’s cut of the film fare? Does it add anything substantial to the disc everyone bought four years ago? Read on to find out not only my impressions of Advent Children Complete, but of the FFXIII demo as well.

DS review – Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time

March 30th, 2009

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles. I must say I hated the Gamecube version. For me, it was the big return of Square on a Nintendo console after skipping a generation, but all I got was a really bad game, where even the best part of it sucked because of one gameplay element: the chalice you had to carry around. Multiplayer, which was the best way to play, also sucked because you needed a GBA AND a link cable for each person playing, and one of the people playing(usually me) was left doing nothing because he had to carry the fucking chalice. It was a big flop, but a big flop with potential that was never used. There were quite a few other flaws, but I wouldn’t have minded them all that much if the chalice and GBA thing weren’t such big problems.

Well when I saw the Crystal Chronicles name coming back on the DS, I wasn’t very curious and almost ignored it. But when I finally took the time to play it, I found that Rings of Fate was actually a really good game. Now I was quite excited for this one. The choice boiled down between the Wii and DS version, but the DS versionĀ  seemed like the better deal.

Wii seemingly has exactly the same graphics and switching between the 2 screens seemed unwieldy (yeah, the Wii version displays both screens from the DS game…). So DS version it is. READ ON for my impressions!!!

PS2 Review – Kingdom Hearts: RE: Chain of Memories

January 26th, 2009

Ah, Kingdom Hearts. A dream come true for both Square Enix fans and Disney fans. Mixing both Final Fantasy characters and various Disney characters, SE was able to create an enticing story that merged both worlds splendidly.
Between the release of Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2, a second game to the series came out on the Game Boy Advance, which told what happened in-between 1 and 2. I always thought it should’ve been a PS2 release, because it tells a relatively important part of the story. Even though it completely changed the base gameplay, it was a fine addition to the series.

Finally, SE did release Chain of Memories on the PS2, but I thought it would stay Japan exclusive, what with it being a free bonus to the Final Mix version of Kingdom Hearts 2, it finally ended up in America. A bit of a downer though, that it didn’t come with the Final Mix of KH2, since the Final Mix didn’t come out here at all.

Well, let’s go then, check out what I have to say about this one! Should be a pretty short review…

Dissidia Final Fantasy Review

January 3rd, 2009

I wish my 20th birthday had been celebrated like this...

Dissidia Final Fantasy was released in Japan on the 18th of December last year, shifting 350’000 units in three days and I was lucky enough to nab a copy for myself on the 29th. Will this be Final Fantasy’s greatest journey? Or is this merely a way for a desperate Square Enix to cling onto their fans and milk their biggest franchise yet?

Dissidia Final Fantasy Preview

October 17th, 2008

I’ve been asked by a few people to divulge more information regarding a few games I played during the Tokyo Game Show… One of the games that have repeatedly recurred is Dissidia Final Fantasy. I guess it’s only fair that I preview one of the biggest games to land on handheld consoles since their inception, right?
