Ah the Sonic cylce: see the game’s reveal trailer, get excited thinking “finally, THIS is the game that will make Sonic be good again”, see some gameplay videos and think “this doesn’t look too bad!” and then play the game and realize it’s terrible as always. It happened with every Sonic game. EVEN Black Knight where they gave Sonic a sword had a lot of people thinking that it would be the game to revive Sonic.
Well, before actually playing the game, I was planning on coming into this review saying “Hey guys, this new Sonic games is bad as usual, don’t buy it, ‘k?”. But somehow I can’t do that, because then I’d be lying.

Well, before going with our Games of the Year choices, we’ll go through the biggest surprises and the biggest disappointments of the year.
Let’s start with the biggest surprises. Every year in gaming is full of surprises, some good, some bad (AKA disappointments, which we’ll discuss next time). This year? Well it definitely was no exception. There was tons of really good surprises here.
So read on! Here are our 4 biggest surprises of 2010!

Sonic games on consoles have been pretty terrible after the Genesis. The Adventure series was a step in the right direction (I mean, all the non Sonic/Shadow levels sucked, but the Sonic and Shadow levels were good), but everything afterwards has sucked. The more recent Sonic Unleashed, however, DID get some praise. Why? Well, while half the levels were a completely terrible GoW rip-off, the speed-based levels did manage to find an audience. But… they weren’t actually any good, it’s just that, in contrast to the crappy Werehog levels, they actually seemed sort of fun.
Listening to the criticism from the previous game, Sega did what they thought was the logical thing, and made the whole game just like the daytime levels in Sonic Unleashed. Was it a good or bad thing?

Sonic 4! A true sequel to the Genesis series of Sonic games! Or so this is what it was advertised as. I wasn’t the only one who was caught by the hype.
But, as with most people, I was a slight bit skeptical about it since, you know, Sonic didn’t get a proper console game since… let’s say Adventure 2, but even that had a lot of lameness (AKA all the levels where you didn’t control Sonic/Shadow). The handheld games were okay, though never anywhere near the quality of the Genesis titles, but otherwise Sonic has really been having trouble, and frankly no one can deny that.
I did play the iPhone version when that came out, but I’ll comment on that later.
So read on and see if Sonic is moving away from sucking, or if he’s staying in his comfort zone of crap.
(I’ll be trying out a new review format here, just to see if I like it better than my usual “categories” stuff)

Sega finally revealed all the playable characters in the new Sonic game currently named “Project Needlemouse”. Who are they?

Another month is quickly passing by, and a new one is upcoming. I’m doing this earlier than I thought I would, but whatever!
Starting on this list I’ll also be including interesting import titles from Japan and Europe as well (for the importers out there).
The multi-platform games are at the bottom of the list.
If you see anything missing from the list, don’t hesitate to tell me in the comments and I’ll try to make this list as up-to-date as possible.

Well, Christmas has passed, the new year is coming, and now it’s time to see what is coming for us next year.Â
After such a good gaming year in 2008, can 2009 top it?
I’ve compiled a list of the great games coming out next year, so check it out to see if it’s gonna be a good year for you.
Of course, some games are not confirmed for 2009, and there might be some games that haven’t been announced yet, so this is in no way a 100% complete list, but it should include enough to have interesting games for every gamer out there.
Well, without delay let’s jump into this!
I’m probably not the only one who thought that this was a bad idea. Sonic the Hedgehog, one of the fastest characters in video game history, getting a Turn-based RPG. It makes little to no sense. TBRPGs are slow, Sonic games are fast. There is nothing between the two that seems to work well together. And everyone who thought that, such as me… was wrong.
Surprisingly, I actually found that this is a good game. Let’s see what i thought of it a bit more in detail. Read more…
