Games coming out in June 2013

May 25th, 2013

Still being slow on my reviews because, again, not playing a whole lot of stuff, and at this point what I AM playing I’ve either already reviewed, or have been out for a couple months so aren’t really worth reviewing…

So JUNE! E3 time, fuck yeah! Sony will show their launch plans for the PS4 (which I really hope turns out okay), Nintendo will reveal a bunch of Wii U games and make it worth buying… Oh and Microsoft will fail to redeem themselves after their horrible reveal.

But there’s also a couple releases: 2 for 3DS, 1 PS3 exclusive, 2 Vita games (whoa!), 2 Wii U games (WHOA!!!!) and 2 multiplats.

Usual disclaimer: Those include either games I’m interested in, or games that may be/become popular… Basically anything I feel bears mentioning, whether I’m personally hyped for it or not.

All hype is lost: why people don’t care about the 8th gen

May 22nd, 2013

Haven’t posted much in a while, partly because I haven’t been video gaming much in the last month, but today I feel like posting. Might be because of my own E3 hype, or the fact that Microsoft flubbed their Xbox reveal today, I dunno.

The competitors are lined up and the 8th gen is looking!… pretty lame. That’s not to say there’s nothing interesting down the pipeline, but I’m noticing a general lack of excitement for this new generation (not just from myself, but just looking around at the gaming community), as if new consoles weren’t just about to come out… And I think I can actually explain it.

So what I’ll do here is give my personal hype for the 8th gen consoles, and attempt to explain why there’s a general lack of enthusiasm for them in the gaming public.

And I will note that I’ll do another post for my E3 impressions, but there may be some repetition here if some of the companies fail to impress again.

Guacamelee review

April 21st, 2013

Guacamelee
From one metroidvania to another! Guacamelee didn’t really catch my
attention for the longest time, but I still decided to pick it up when it came out, just to have something to play on my Vita even if for just a few hours.

This is gonna be fast, read on!

Games coming out in April 2013

March 24th, 2013

This is a pretty empty month surprisingly, but there’s a couple cool releases upcoming… Oh, and kickstarter backers such as I will be getting their OUYA consoles near the beginning of the month so you can expect a post where I’ll bash the console! … Probably.

Either way… In April we’re getting: 2 3DS titles, a Vita game, a PS3 game, a 360 game and 3 multiplats. As I said, slow month.

Usual disclaimer: Those include either games I’m interested in, or games that may be/become popular… Basically anything I feel bears mentioning, whether I’m personally hyped for it or not. I’m probably missing some stuff (generally the more indie stuff).

Let’s go!

Games coming out in March 2013

February 26th, 2013

Well this has been a slow month of posting… I’ve been playing a couple RPGs so I haven’t really had time to post too much at all (gameplay time is low when you have a full-time job). Ni No Kuni and Fire Emblem reviews still possibly upcoming though, eventually I might actually play those to completion.

On that note, let’s talk about upcoming releases in March! Here we’re getting: 4 3DS games, 3 PS3 games, 2 PC games, a 360 game, 1 Wii U games, a Vita game, a Wii game, and finally 6 multiplatform games… OH and I think the Ouya is coming out for kickstarter backers in March… but who cares?

Usual disclaimer: Those include either games I’m interested in, or games that may be/become popular… Basically anything I feel bears mentioning, whether I’m personally hyped for it or not. I’m probably missing some stuff (generally the more indie stuff).

Games coming out in February 2013

January 20th, 2013

I’m posting this early, because I predict my free time may be taken by Ni No Kuni this week (if I receive it this week)… I do have a few other upcoming posts, but we’ll see if I’ll ever have time to do that.

February is giving us: 2 great 3DS games, 6 multiplat releases, 1 Wii U release and 1 Vita release. A couple of quality releases here.

Usual disclaimer: Those include either games I’m interested in, or games that may be/become popular… Basically anything I feel bears mentioning, whether I’m personally hyped for it or not.

Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed review

January 13th, 2013

Good non-Mario kart racers are rare (though I haven’t played LBPKarting yet so maybe that’s another good one), but it’s always fun to see them. This is a sequel to the 2010 Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing, which was a solid racing game for sure.

So… let’s just jump in straight into the review!

Note that I played both the Wii U and Vita versions, but they’re essentially identical so take it as a review for any of the currently-released versions (as of January 13th 2013)….

Other note, I’m calling this Sonic Kart 2 from now on, hope you don’t mind.

Games coming out in January 2013

December 26th, 2012

A new year, yay! While 2012 was a bit low on amazing titles, I have some hopes for 2013 being pretty fun.

The first month of the year gives us: 3 multiplat games, 1 PS3 game, 1 3DS game, 1 PC game and 1 Vita game. Not a whole lot of stuff, but let’s see if there’s anything cool shall we?

Usual disclaimer: Those include either games I’m interested in, or games that may be/become popular… Basically anything I feel bears mentioning, whether I’m personally hyped for it or not. No “shovelware” here.

Ragnarok Odyssey review

November 8th, 2012

When such a non-supported console as the Vita gets an interesting exclusive, it’s hard not to run to it and check it out. The target here is a spin-off to the used-to-be-popular MMORPG Ragnarok Online, Ragnarok Odyssey.

For full disclosure, Ragnarok Online happens to be the only MMORPG I’ve ever played to any workable degree, with any other games in the subgenre boring me long before really getting “into” them. Still, I only played RO during the last 2 years of high school and basically gave up on MMOs right after the fact. I do have fond memories of my time with RO on private servers (including seeing one of my friends, as a bard back when that class sucked, taking down a whole opposing guild on his own including the server’s best Paladin), so playing a new Ragnarok game could count as a bit of a nostalgia trip for me.

That said, let’s go and see if the Vita finally has a worthwhile exclusive!

Games coming out in November 2012

October 21st, 2012

November is always when the biggest blockbusters of the year come out! … So why is there NOTHING coming out this November? I mean, there’s a new console, sure, but there are very few strong releases, or even releases at all, otherwise… it’s rather surprising… GAMING COMPANIES, WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING! Needless to say I’ll be a bit negative in this post, sorry ’bout that :P

So here we have: a new console with 23-ish games at launch (maybe 2 of which are noteworthy), 3 3DS games, 2 Vita games, 1 PSP game, 5 multiplatform games, 1 PS3 game, one PS3 accessory, and finally 1 360 game. It’s extraordinarily low compared to usual Novembers, and there’s really not much that’s really noteworthy at all.

Usual disclaimer: Those include either games I’m interested in, or games that may be/become popular… Basically anything I feel bears mentioning, whether I’m personally hyped for it or not. No “shovelware” here… I mean, there’s 2 Call of Duty titles this month, but otherwise, no shovelware.

Let’s Go!
