Well, time for the gaming world to “recover” from the “drought” of the summer, so it’s time for a lot more “interesting”/noteworthy releases than in the last few months.

This time there’s releases on every system which is good. 3 DS releases, 2 PC releases, 3 PS3 exclusives, 2 PSP releases, 1 Wii release, 2 360 exclusive releases and 10 multiplatform releases. Everyone should at least find one interesting game to play in here.

Blur impressions

August 4th, 2010

Well, at first I was planning to do a full review of Blur. It seemed like an interesting racing game, combining more realistic racers to Mario Kart. I had pretty good hopes for it.

It’s been out for a while, and I finally got around to renting it, and after quite some play time, I just can’t get into it at all, and, as such, I’ll just give my impressions on the game, and explain why I don’t really like it, or at least why I don’t feel like it lived up to its incredible potential.

Record of Agarest War review

July 22nd, 2010
(Despite the Xbox 360 boxart here, the PS3 version is reviewed… there’s no PS3 boxart so I went with the closest thing)
Remember Cross Edge? It came out last year, and it was hated by critics and gamers overall. But I still thought it was a very fun game, there were just a lot of hurdles to jump over before really getting to enjoy it, hurdles which the average gamer or reviewer just didn’t want to bother with (which is quite understandable). And then there’s the fact that it was incredibly badly optimized, with pixelated/blurry 2D graphics and relatively long load times (even when the game was installed). It was still a fun game, with a really good battle system and lots of fun leveling systems.

This year we get Record of Agarest War. Made by the same company, and it has a lot in common. So maybe this is this year’s “Cross Edge” in a sense. It’s been out for a while now, I just took my sweet time playing it and finally getting to review it. But, from the little research I made, I found that it got more favorable reviews than Cross Edge did.

So read on and see if it really deserves the slightly more favorable reviews!

Singularity review

July 4th, 2010

From looking at some gameplay videos and interviews, I thought Singularity might be a fun, original FPS, with different gameplay than the average military shooter or Halo clone. As such, I had good expectations for the game, thinking it might be more interesting than the average modern FPS.

In a time where every FPS looks and plays the same, I had hopes that Singularity would be one of the few to divert from what FPS are nowadays.

Read on and see if it ended up being what I hoped it would be, or if it went for the “we’ll be the same as everyone” route!

Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing review

June 19th, 2010

What a weird title…. ANYWAYS, this is a Sonic racing game, and Sonic, rather than running, has to drive a car… that’s kinda weird, considering he can run faster than the speed of sound. He is joined by various All-Stars in the Sega library. Well, more like cult favorites, since very few of the racers could be considered actual All-Stars. And if you get the Xbox 360 version, Banjo and Kazooie join in on the fun… for some reason…

I sort of took my time before playing this, because I wasn’t sure if it would be any good, considering this is a post-Sonic 3 game in the Sonic franchise (I checked, Sonic CD was before 3), AND it’s a spin-off…

After a while I decided to rent it and sort of played non-stop since I got it… So read on and see if I really liked it or not!

Xbox 360 Review – Alan Wake

June 3rd, 2010

Alan Wake has been in the works for a while, a pretty long while. The project, along its development did change a bit from the initial open world thriller. That’s probably for the best however. On this game’s release date I purchased both this and Red Dead Redemption. Both amazing titles although, I’m guessing this not being a Rockstar title, it may not have gotten as much hype as the former at least not as of lately. Alan Wake had started being a regular at E3 if I recall. To the point people were wondering if it was ever going to be released. Until last year’s reveal at E3 2009.

More after the jump.

Mini review – Dante’s Inferno

June 3rd, 2010

God of War is easily the lowest tier in the action game genre, currently governed by Bayonetta and Devil May Cry 3. Dante’s Inferno seems to be taking the God of War route of action gaming: more fluff, less depth in the fighting system (which revolves around mashing buttons and spamming the same attacks over and over), QTEs up the ass… But when I played the demo a few months back, I felt like it might actually have a bit of potential.

So 4 months later I actually gave the full game a try. And I’m not going to do a full review of it… because I gave up playing halfway through. It wasn’t able to keep my interest for very long, so I can’t do a complete review, but I’ll at least give my impressions.

Read on! (this ended up a bit longer than I expected, but it’s not exactly a full review anyways :P )

Splinter Cell Conviction review

May 11th, 2010

This is the first time I played a Splinter Cell game… or any Tom Clancy game for that matter. So I had no idea what it had in store for me. But various previews and reviews made me quite interested in this one, and I couldn’t pinpoint why that was. It just looked fun.

So I decided to get it and finally see what it was all about. I don’t like playing online, so I only played the single player campaign, and a bit of single player Deniable Ops missions.

Read on and see if I liked it!

Halo: Reach beta impressions

Downloadable Game Review – After Burner Climax

April 23rd, 2010

After Burner is… a game I never played originally. Yeah, even when I was a kid, arcades weren’t very big around here, and as a result I never got to play After Burner. But in more recent years I did end up playing quite a few games in the series, and loving it. Well, except for the NES version, but that’s a topic for another day.

After Burner Climax came out in the arcades in 2006. Since there’s no arcades around here (the ones we DO have are just those ticket game things), I never got to play it… until now. When I found out the game was coming to the PS3 and Xbox 360, I knew I had to play it, because videos of the arcade version looked so damn awesome.

So is the game as awesome as it looked in the videos of the arcade version? Read on and find out!
