Games coming out in April 2013

March 24th, 2013

This is a pretty empty month surprisingly, but there’s a couple cool releases upcoming… Oh, and kickstarter backers such as I will be getting their OUYA consoles near the beginning of the month so you can expect a post where I’ll bash the console! … Probably.

Either way… In April we’re getting: 2 3DS titles, a Vita game, a PS3 game, a 360 game and 3 multiplats. As I said, slow month.

Usual disclaimer: Those include either games I’m interested in, or games that may be/become popular… Basically anything I feel bears mentioning, whether I’m personally hyped for it or not. I’m probably missing some stuff (generally the more indie stuff).

Let’s go!

Games coming out in March 2013

February 26th, 2013

Well this has been a slow month of posting… I’ve been playing a couple RPGs so I haven’t really had time to post too much at all (gameplay time is low when you have a full-time job). Ni No Kuni and Fire Emblem reviews still possibly upcoming though, eventually I might actually play those to completion.

On that note, let’s talk about upcoming releases in March! Here we’re getting: 4 3DS games, 3 PS3 games, 2 PC games, a 360 game, 1 Wii U games, a Vita game, a Wii game, and finally 6 multiplatform games… OH and I think the Ouya is coming out for kickstarter backers in March… but who cares?

Usual disclaimer: Those include either games I’m interested in, or games that may be/become popular… Basically anything I feel bears mentioning, whether I’m personally hyped for it or not. I’m probably missing some stuff (generally the more indie stuff).

Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed review

January 13th, 2013

Good non-Mario kart racers are rare (though I haven’t played LBPKarting yet so maybe that’s another good one), but it’s always fun to see them. This is a sequel to the 2010 Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing, which was a solid racing game for sure.

So… let’s just jump in straight into the review!

Note that I played both the Wii U and Vita versions, but they’re essentially identical so take it as a review for any of the currently-released versions (as of January 13th 2013)….

Other note, I’m calling this Sonic Kart 2 from now on, hope you don’t mind.

Games of the Year 2012!

December 25th, 2012

Wow, this year kinda sucked… In a way.
Usually I do a lot of GotY posts, with one per major system/handheld and one for multiplat releases (since including multiplat releases in “best of X system” awards is retarded GameTrailers), as well as overall winners, with 3-5 winners in each category if possible (because I feel it’s ridiculous to call anything a “best” game, and I like choice). This year there just aren’t enough great games for that.

Not to say there weren’t good games, but very few that I feel were good enough to be in the running for GotY. So, due to that, I decided to go at it in a very simple manner and do one post, and maybe put a couple honorable mentions at the bottom for games I didn’t feel were GotY caliber.

So… let’s go with this year’s winners right away!

(Please note: I may not have played every game that came out in 2012, so sorry if I missed anything that you feel should win… oh, and FUCK Journey and FUCK anyone who likes that vapid non-game POS… yes, that means you Jim Sterling)

Dishonored review

October 28th, 2012

I wasn’t interested by this game when it was first announced, and even through the first few trailers and gameplay videos. It was only at this year’s E3 where I looked at more information and more comprehensive gameplay videos that I really got any hype for it and finally pre-ordered it when I found a good deal.

Close to release a piece of news about this game was rather distressing, about focus testers who sucked at the game to the point of not doing anything without the game telling them, so the developers added handholding… frankly that worried me about the final product becoming a streamlined piece of crap… But I kept my pre-order on and hoped for the best.

Was I happy about my purchase? Read on and see!

Games coming out in November 2012

October 21st, 2012

November is always when the biggest blockbusters of the year come out! … So why is there NOTHING coming out this November? I mean, there’s a new console, sure, but there are very few strong releases, or even releases at all, otherwise… it’s rather surprising… GAMING COMPANIES, WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING! Needless to say I’ll be a bit negative in this post, sorry ’bout that :P

So here we have: a new console with 23-ish games at launch (maybe 2 of which are noteworthy), 3 3DS games, 2 Vita games, 1 PSP game, 5 multiplatform games, 1 PS3 game, one PS3 accessory, and finally 1 360 game. It’s extraordinarily low compared to usual Novembers, and there’s really not much that’s really noteworthy at all.

Usual disclaimer: Those include either games I’m interested in, or games that may be/become popular… Basically anything I feel bears mentioning, whether I’m personally hyped for it or not. No “shovelware” here… I mean, there’s 2 Call of Duty titles this month, but otherwise, no shovelware.

Games coming out in October 2012

September 24th, 2012

Well, tons of releases this month! The season of big releases is finally actually starting. Not really a whole lot I’m personally interested in buying, but a lot of stuff nonetheless.

So in October were’s getting: 13 multiplatform games, 4 3DS games, 1/2 DS games, 6 Vita releases (whoa!), 2 PS3 exclusives and 2 Xbox 360 exclusives. Again ignoring Battle Kid 2 which should have been out quite a while ago.

Usual disclaimer: Those include either games I’m interested in, or games that may be/become popular… Basically anything I feel bears mentioning, whether I’m personally hyped for it or not. No “shovelware” here.

E3 2012 conferences impressions!

June 6th, 2012

It’s E3 time! And, as per usual, I’ll spend some time talking about what us, the general public, can see from E3. Specifically the Big 3′s conferences.

For full disclosure, here were my expectations for E3 2012 before the conferences started:
Microsoft would end up having a pretty worthless presentation, Sony would have a great presentation because, at this point, they NEED to, and Nintendo will kick ass with tons of Wii U announcements and 3DS dates and announcements. So basically: Business as usual for MS, Sony going more above and beyond than usual and Nintendo being Nintendo, pretty much.

So let’s talk about the 3 main conferences. What worked, what didn’t, who sucked, who didn’t, stuff like that.

Games coming out in June 2012

May 24th, 2012

June! Games! Stuff! Words! Yeah, I don’t have anything to say this month. Let’s just talk about the games that are coming out.

So there’s a couple things coming out in June. Let’s see… a 3DS release, a DS release, a PSP release, 2 Vita releases, a Wii release, a PS3 release, 3 Xbox 360 releases (whoa!) and five multiplatform releases… And even possibly another NES release! Seems like everything is getting something in june!
Those include either games I’m interested in, or games that may be/become popular… Basically anything I feel bears mentioning, whether I’m personally hyped for it or not.

Let’s go!

Why I couldn’t play more than 1 level of Ninja Gaiden 3

May 10th, 2012

So Ninja Gaiden 3 came out. To a horde of angry gamers who can’t stand it. I still figured I’d give it a chance. I mean, it’s a Ninja Gaiden game, they’re generally at least somewhat enjoyable. Even Sigma 2 was kinda fun even if it was a lot more button-mashy than the first game in the rebooted series. And sometimes I end up liking games no one else likes, so maybe this would be one of those case.

So I rented it, played through a single level, and brought it back. What went wrong? Well, I COULD say “everything”, but I think we need to go into the specifics here.
