Games coming out in April 2017

March 27th, 2017 No comments

March was quite the month for me. My dad got cancer surgery (he’s doing good), work being weird, Switch, a bunch of posts, too much Power Rangers, Switch, Nier, probably other games… It feels like this month lasted a year. But we’re right at the end and it’s time to talk about next month!

The count in April: 17 multiplats,  a Switch release, 2 PS4 releases and a PC release. There’s a good number of interesting releases this month. I’m grabbing quite a few things.

So let’s talk about it!

Usual disclaimer: This includes either games I’m interested in, games that may be/become popular and random stuff in-between… Basically anything I feel bears mentioning. Probably missing stuff because game companies are shit about announcing release dates nowadays (and good at delaying games near release). Indies in particular are kinda random, or bad at making their games known (I get that it’s hard, but if I don’t see anything about your game before it comes out, I can’t very much highlight it). So if there’s no indie games here, it’s pretty normal. I won’t spend hours that I could be playing games watching videos for indie games I have no immediate interest in.

Games coming out in January 2017

December 29th, 2016 No comments

And after all this stuff, it’s also time to start again with the monthly releases post. Of course the most important thing happening in January will be the Switch event from Nintendo. They better not mess that up. Another thing, the PS4 actually has a couple exclusives coming up in the next few months. That’s pretty surprising considering its track record so far (outside of a handful of VR games I guess), I hope it keeps up.

So we’re getting a couple things this upcoming month. Maybe a few things that could be pretty interesting. 1 3DS release, 5 PS4 releases, 6 multiplats, a PC DLC (not something I usually highlight) and a Vita filler.

2017 in video games – hype or no hype?

December 29th, 2016 No comments

So that’s it for my GotY 2016 stuff. 2016 was a fairly weak year overall. So while I’m not SUPER EXCITED for 2017, there’s a handful of games I do have lots of hype for, so I figured I’d highlight some of those. Just for a quick fun post.

Let’s go and hope 2017 is a step up from the last 3 years. (note that this was written before the Switch event, so who knows if anything more is going to be officially announced there)

EDIT: I had to change this because Microsoft are stupid idiots and cancelled Scalebound… which might not be THAT big of a shame since it seems MS fucked with the development in the first place, as evidenced by a Kamiya tweet from 2015… but I’m still disappointed (also I did other small edits)

Games coming out in December 2016

November 26th, 2016 No comments

So in the November release post I never updated that Dragon Ball Fusions was coming out. It got its release date changed from December to November partway through the month. I expect to play it soon if Amazon.ca stop being shit and actually send it to me. I also have a few other posts planned. Not sure I can keep the number of posts going as much as I have recently (which is a lot more than usual), but I’ll try.

Oh and I won’t put Shantae on the list again, if it comes out it comes out, I’m not expecting it until next year at this point. Also Wild Guns Reloaded seems to have a december release date now, but sources are all over the place for that, some saying it’s in japan only and stuff. So I dunno what’s up.

So despite December being in the heart of the holiday season, no one likes releasing games in December. That has always baffled me just a little. This month we’re getting basically nothing, as per tradition. 1 PS4 release, 1 3DS release, a mobile release that I consider somewhat noteworthy and 2 multiplat releases.

Usual disclaimer: This includes either games I’m interested in, games that may be/become popular and random stuff in-between… Basically anything I feel bears mentioning. Probably missing stuff because game companies are shit about announcing release dates nowadays (and good at delaying games near release). Indies in particular are kinda random, or bad at making their games known (no, putting your release date in your kickstarter updates isn’t gonna get the word out). So if there’s no indie games here, it’s pretty normal. I’m just highlighting the most noteworthy stuff and the stuff that actually has release dates that are easy to find.

Not much to see here, but maybe something is interesting for you here?

Games I won’t review: the “for now” edition – Dishonored 2

November 13th, 2016 No comments

Dishonored 2

Unlike other “Games I won’t review” posts, this is a game I might end up reviewing eventually. But right now it’s in a sad fucking state and I refuse to even play it until I see a patch being downloaded on Steam, and if that patch makes the game playable.

ReCore review

ReCore with a lie on the box
(nice lie on the box)

So this was a bit me taking a chance with a game that I had no idea might be good. It was taking a chance because Comcept and Inafune was involved, and we know everyone likes them recently, right? But the fact that Armature made it and the game is directed by the director for Metroid Prime, felt to me like it might be worth taking a chance on. After Mighty No 9 people might not believe in Inafune much anymore, but I still think some of the Metroid Prime team can get some good stuff out maybe.

I thought it looked interesting in trailers, so why not. Let’s go and see if it was a chance worth taking!

Games I won’t review – Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

Deus_Ex,_Mankind_Divided

So you would think this is a game that would merit a full review, right? And, true enough, it definitely does. However, I’m playing the PC version and… I don’t know if it’s my computer, or if the game is badly optimized on PC (which would be weird since the previous game ran great on PC)… But there’s a good reason I decided not to play it anymore.

Still gonna give it a quick mini-review, since I didn’t play enough of it to fully judge it.

Read on and see why I’m not reviewing one of the biggest games of the year!

Mirror’s Edge Catalyst review

June 17th, 2016 No comments

Mirror's_Edge_Catalyst

The first Mirror’s Edge was a really cool game. It was a breath of fresh air in an industry that was drowning itself in brown. Ended up being one of my favorite games of last gen, it’s real fun. Not just the graphic presentation (the story was crap), but the gameplay was exhilarating.

It took quite a long time before we finally got this sequel. I was a bit wary of it because it was so long since the first game, and they’re making it a reboot and stuff. I did play the beta and it seemed fine, though I didn’t go too far into it.

So let’s see if it lives up.

2015 Games of the Year

January 1st, 2016 No comments

2015 was turds. But I still gotta give my thoughts on the year as a whole and name the definitive games of the year. Not like there wasn’t a selection, but it was pretty minuscule. Just for reference to show this year sucked, Persona 4: Dancing All-Night was in my nominee list. Just let that sink in.

I will note the handful of big games I haven’t played though that might have had a chance of some sort to make it in a GotY list, possibly: Dying Light, Pillars of Eternity, Rare Replay, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Halo 5 (just got an Xbone, so I need time to play these games), Just Cause 3, MGSV and Fatal Frame. Otherwise I’ve played most everything of note.

So here we’ll have a quick rant, 4 nearly-winners, 1 winner, a quick highlight of my favorite indie games, honorable mentions, and the top trash of the year!

Let’s go!

Games coming in may 2014

April 27th, 2014 No comments

May is gonna be a pretty busy month for me… and that’s not gonna be because of video games at all. I bought a house and I’m moving in during the month of may. So I’m actually kinda thankful that the game releases aren’t too fast this month.

So as for games, there are: 1 Wii U game, 2 3DS game, 4 Vita games. 2 PS3 games and 3 multiplats. Not too much.

Read on and see what you’ll be grabbing!

Usual disclaimer: Those include either games I’m interested in and games that may be/become popular and random stuff in-between… Basically anything I feel bears mentioning, whether I’m personally hyped for it or not.
